I know we've all missed Keith this week - not to knock the faboo job David Shuster's been doing in his "pinch hitting" duties! But, be assured that Keith has enjoyed his time off; read his latest post in his MLB blog that you can access from my blogroll & prepare to "AAAAaaaaaWWWWwwwww!" :D
I'm going to change up Countdown diary SOP for tonight {insert surprised gasp here}. Instead of doing "this day in history," I'm going to do "this YEAR in history." Here's why; tomorrow, Hubby & I go back to where I grew up for my 20 - year high school senior class reunion! I graduated from high school on my 18th birthday in 1989. My senior year in high school was absolutely faboo except for one event, and some people came into my life that changed me & my life forever. So, follow the link for a little stroll down 1989 memory lane!
Some events I remember better than others. I, of course, remember Tiananmen Square, The Satanic Verses controversy, and the fall of the Berlin Wall. The people around Alaska's Prince William Sound remember & still live with the Exxon Valdez wreck. And, I was watching the World Series when the earthquake hit & distinctly remembering commenting to my college roommate when the coverage went off the air, "Gee! Maybe, there was an earthquake!" In the course of commenting about all the news fit to count down, feel free to throw in some comments about some of 1989's events or your own 1989 memories.
Let's Countdown!
O...M...G...RICHARD WOLFFE IS PINCH – HITTING TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I get to gaze upon him FOR AN ENTIRE HOUR?????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, be still my heart & stuff! ;D
#5 "Racial Politics" AKA "Not So Black and White" - Golly, he is DREAMY! OK, must maintain focus...must maintain focus...must maintain focus... President Obama made another surprise visit to this afternoon’s White House briefing in an attempt to quell the controversy {envision Richard Wolffe’s accent here} concerning what he had to say the other night about Dr. Henry Gates’ arrest. Police union officials think President Obama owes an apology to the entire law enforcement community. And, they didn’t think the disorderly conduct charges against Professor Gates should’ve been dropped. Ya’ know, maybe Sgt. James Crowley should stop giving interviews. And, if Dr. Gates is giving interviews (haven’t seen him in one), he should stop, too. President Obama called Sgt. Crowley! Oh, to be a fly on the wall or on the phone line during THAT conversation. What President Obama said today was very classy. I just can’t see the "previous guy in charge" making an admission like that. Can y’all? Cambridge police union officials are ready to make nice, now. I bet Robert Gibbs has had a fun couple days at work the past couple of days – NOT! I’m sure President Obama didn’t see the morning press conference from Cambridge, but I bet he sure as $hit heard about it.
#4 "Racial Politics" AKA "’Teachable’ & Treacherous" - Boss Limbaugh is having a field day resurrecting the "angry black man" memo. Did you hear Richard’s words?! Boss Limbaugh’s "...personal jihad..." YES! Yea, Boss Limbaugh hasn’t been angry in his heart his whole life, either. What...a...boil...on...the...butt...of...humanity. We all need to send Boss Limbaugh an XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXL white robe & hood to the "EIB" lair. And, how ‘bout what Michael Eric Dyson had to say??!! I AM HAVING WAY TOO MUCH FUN! My goodness, Mr. Dyson haz the smart. And, someone like that, obviously, scares the $hit out of Boss Limbaugh.
** Richard’s going to do "Oddball"?! HA! Frogs are getting married in India. There’s a contest for Cashier of the Year in Japan. Ugh...can y’all imagine how rough THAT would be? Their culture is so concerned about saving face & such. Can you imagine what Japan’s customer service standards are like? There was a mascot "mishap" during a AA – farm club Mets game. OUCH! Y’all think he’ll be at the next tea bagging event? **
#3 "RX for Change" AKA "Life – and – Death Politics" AKA "Sick Political Games" - Blue Dog Dems walked out of health care reform debate today. Well, wasn’t that sweet?! I’m tellin’ y’all; the GOP is drooling over what the Dems are doing to each other. Senator Grassley is egging on the Blue Dogs; well, of course he is! Gov. Rick "Let’s Be Our Own Country Again" Perry of Texas is going to fight the effects of health care reform in his state/country. Texas has the highest number of citizens without health insurance – almost 5 million. Didn’t he try to reject stimulus money, too, and ended up having to beg for it? Rahm Emanuel needs to start lobbing some "f bombs" toward the Blue Dogs. That’s why he got the COS job, yes? Here’s Robert Gibbs again. I agree with President Obama that SOME sort of deadline needed to be at least mentioned because nothing would be accomplished otherwise. Chris Kofinis made a great point. Not only is the GOP playing politics with people’s health & with their lives, but they don’t have a plan – PERIOD. Well, I partially disagree; here is their "plan."
OK, I have a silly question. If "negotiations" concerning health care reform are going to happen during the August recess, as Chris Kofinis said, WHY THE SPARK HAVE THE RECESS?
#2 "Grandmother in Chief" AKA "The First Grandma" - Michelle Obama’s mom made some comments to kids today about life in the White House. Can y’all just sparkin’ imagine living there? Ya’ want pizza at 2 in the morning? You GET pizza at 2 in the morning! DAMN! She doesn’t think her SIL has changed very much. There was COUNTRY music in the White House this week?! {insert retching noise here}
#1 "WASEEYA! (in the lower 48)" AKA "Thrilla From Wasilla" AKA "Buh Bye, Governor" - I bet Richard’s having FUN with this story! ;D Wow, did y’all see those poll results?! Talk about yer’ reversals of fortune! Yea, I’m crying a river for her. There’s Lawrence O’Donnell! He thinks Grandma Gov. TurkeyLover’s chances of getting the GOP nomination in 2012 are between slim & none. Gee, some Americans like her more as a person than as a politician. Hell, I’ve never met her, and I can tell y’all that I don’t like her as a person or a politician. Hell, I think the jury’s still out on the whole issue of if she’s even human. I LOVE Richard Wolffe’s "putting the twit back in Twitter" comment! Too...damn...funny... Wow, he’s funny, smart, dreamy, has an accent to die for, and he’s married with children. Oh well... ;D
