To say there was "endless idiocy" in Governor I'd-Rather-Be-Playing-Point-Guard's blather, would be to underestimate the meaning of "endless", yet there was one particular section of yesterday's interruption of duck mating that highlighted everything that is maddening about the .5478 term Governor from Alaska.
Some are going to question the timing of this. And let me just say that this decision has been in the works for a while. In fact, this decision comes after much consideration, prayer and consideration. And finally I polled the most important people in my life, my kids, where the count was unanimous. Well, in response to asking: "Do you want me to make a positive difference and fight for all our children’s future from outside the governor’s office?" It was four yeses and one "hell yeah!" And the "hell yeah" sealed it.
OK...
...we all know this never ACTUALLY happened, because anyone who would put the onus of whether to bail on the responsibilities of their job - especially a job that affects so many people - on a vote by their underaged offspring is world's worst mother not actually abusing, starving or abandoning their children.
Also, Trig is a year and a half old and Piper is eight. So, the former is not old enough to say "yes" and the latter is not old enough to process what "inside the governor's office" really mean.
("Mommy, before I vote, might you lay out for me what the after-tax revenue of your speeches would be as compared to your current salary, specifically how it will effect my ability to buy more dollies?")
Also, also Willow is fourteen, so she is likely in "does this mean I have to change high school?" mode.
("Oh, fuck, Mom! What the hell do we have to do NOW! (feet pound, door slam)")
Also, also, also both Bristol and Track have far more important things to be worrying about (a one year old child and deployment in Iraq).
(Curiously, also, also, also, also poor Todd doesn't appear to get a vote, which is, I guess the "tough titties" of being married to a maniacal moose huntress.)
But what makes the whole lie so pointless is not that the moment is fictional, nor (or should I say also, also, also, also, also) that the above quote is hopelessly naive, but that the TRUTH (which I have scripted below for Ms. Palin) is so much more compelling:
Some are going to question the timing of this. And let me must say that this decision has been in the works for a while. In fact, this decision comes after much consideration, prayer and consideration. Look, I've put my family through a lot during the past year. Being governor is hard on them. Running for Vice President was hard on them. And what I'm about to embark on is also going to hard on them, especially because all of these decisions are my own and therefore they have little say in these matters. But I'm so proud of the way they have handled all these changes and I love them from the bottom of my heart.
THAT is somewhere near the truth (one would hope) and THAT is a reality some of us might relate to and THAT is an admission of humanity which doesn't attempt to escape all culpability for one's actions.
Ultimately (AKA also, also, also, also, also, also) what is unsettling about the Alaskan Abdicator is that her falsified public personae is so overwhelming that she can't see when the TRUTH is actually enough.
