We all know that Sarah Palin is dumb. And not just your garden-variety dumb, but mind-numbingingly, rip-your-hair-out, "In what respect, Charlie?" stupid. So it should not have come as a surprise that she would have the asinine idea of chucking her job (you know, the one she campaigned for, literally begged people to give her) so she could be "more effective" outside politics.
It's no secret that her most fervent desire is to be POTUS. Why else would she jump so fast on the McCain bandwagon that her whole family got whiplash? Why else would she humiliate and exploit her children if not for her own insatiable desire for bigger and better. And the scary thing is, I'm not convinced that she really enjoys politics or public service. We all heard how she denigrated community organizers. I'd be willing to bet that she did so not because she thinks they give a person little to no experience in politics or don't really do good works for the community, but simply because they don't get a spotlight. If she could get the same recognition and limelight as a community organizer that the VPOTUS would garner, you know she'd be pounding pavement in her red stilettos. And that is the most dangerous thing about Sarah Palin. It's not the stupid, nor the religion, or even the uber-right policy positions. It's the reason she got into politics in the first place. Sarah Palin wants to be a celebrity, not a public servant.
Which brings me to the real topic of this diary.
It's been really interesting to see, over the course of the last year since she was tapped by McCain, how the grand poobahs of the GOP overlooked all the baggage and proclaimed her a "leader" of the party. In the space of mere weeks she went from near obscurity to her party's choice to potentially be second-in-command of the entire nation. That is some scary shit! And even when she and gramps crashed and burned, they kept up the pretense! They all pretended, still, after everything that had happened, that she was capable of leading the GOP and indeed was even a front-runner for 2012. Yes, there were grumblings out of the campaign, a few whispers here and there of discord, but they all seemed to have rallied around her.
Well, I think the love affair between the GOP and Sarah Palin is coming to a swift end. The long knives are being drawn, and Sarah would do well to watch her back. According to HuffPo:
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee said Palin's announcement that she would not seek a second term -- and leave office before finishing her first -- simply doesn't make sense in a conventional political setting.
Well, that's pretty obvious. Almost nothing Palin does is conventional. Turkey Butchering Interview Backdrop, anyone?
Huck also said:
If she's looking to be a national political figure, it's not going to get easier.
"In a primary this is going to be an issue she'll have to face. Will she be able to withstand the pressure?".
Even Rove is getting in on the action:
Again, she said she wanted to lead effective change outside of government. Well, now people will be saying what is it you mean by that and how are you demonstrating effective leadership for change around America? I'm like Governor [Mike] Huckabee. I'm a fan of Sarah Palin's, but the effective strategies in politics are ones that are so clear and obvious that people can grasp it."
Ouch. Those little slaps are just the first taste of things to come. I have no doubt that soon, very soon, all the GOP hopefuls and figureheads will be out in force, ready to rip her grandiose dreams to shreds. If Palin thought that the media was bad, wait till she sees what her fellow 2012 prospects do to her. I think that Obama and Co. went relatively light on her in the general, contrary to what she thinks. Knowing how ruthless the GOP tends be, she doesn't stand a chance in her own primary. Given her stupidity and narcissism, she just might have forgotten that she wasn't elected as McCain's VP choice. I'm pretty certain that if it did work that way, she'd no more have gotten the nod than a real pitbull with lipstick.
All I can say is that if she was intelligent, she will have used this "quitting is really winning" strategy to switch gears entirely and leave politics altogether for something more suitable to her vanity (she always did want to be a TV personality). Oh. Right. She's not. Oh well. Like I said, Sarah. Keep your eye on Mittens and the Huckster and all the other wingnutty POTUS-wannabes. They've raided the knife drawer and are gunning for you. You betcha.
