Although not unexpected, due to her recent health problems, this is sad news to start the day with. My sympathies go to the family and I cannot help but particularly grieve for dear Sen. Kennedy, who already has so much to contend with.
Eunice was, by all reports, a wonderful woman. She spent her lifetime engaged in the pursuit of benefiting others, those that needed aid most. From her time as a social worker in a women's prison to the creation of the Special Olympics, Eunice's labors for those in need set a moral example for us all.
Eunice Kennedy Shriver Passes
This feels especially sad, as if the twilight of an era is fading to its end. For many of us that remember JFK and Bobby, we feel a bond to this special family. Perhaps because of the public airings of their personal tragedies, their many contributions to our nation, their great desire to give back, or all these things.
Having raised a special needs child, I was particularly grateful for Eunice's work in that regard. She brought hope, opportunity, and dignity to those that had not previously known these things. In her 88 years, she truly made a difference.
I feel like a friend has been lost today.
If you get a chance, please stop by and leave a tribute Eunice Kennedy Shriver Org.
