In a letter smacking of obstruction of Justice or at the very least interference in a Federal probe, nine Republican Senators have sent a letter to Attorney General Holder, attempting to stop him from investigating those implicated in Guantanamo detainee interrogations that may have strayed past legal limits.
The letter was sent to Holder by Senate Republican Whip Jon Kyl of Arizona, Sen. Kit Bond (R-Missouri), vice chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama), ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, and was also signed by Sens. Richard Burr (R-North Carolina), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia), Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah).

And please recommend to keep it near the top!
As has been made clear in recent and not-so-recent revelations, detainees have been assaulted by the CIA and by others of their captors, while chained and helpless. And this has been going on for years. Further revelations this week have added electric drills, mock executions, threatened rape of children and wives. We have to ask ourselves- what country is this? Is there no limit to the assaults that we can inflict on a fellow human being?
And I guess the answer is "no".
We do not know the actual number of detainees tortured to death- as in MURDERED - while held totally helpless and unseen by the world outside the hell of our gulags. But attempts to investigate these instances have been stifled before.
This most recent attempt to suffocate the functions of our Department of Justice is amazing and brazen in its approach- coming as it does from top Republican Senators.
I believe we should not stand idle.
Can I count on you to join the battle for accountability and justice?
To quote a blogger on Alternet:
How about we all write to these Senators or call their offices and remind them that no one including the President, Vice-President, Attorney General or Secretary of Defense or the Director of the CIA are above the law and that it is the duty of the Attorney General to investigate and prosecute any violation of US Federal Statutes. And their letter borders on interference in a Federal Investigation and/or impeding a law enforcement official from doing his or her duty.
