neil's conversation with the so-called security experts yesterday was infuriating for a number of reasons.
Like the boy who cried wolf, dick cheney has lied to us about wmd's, saddam hussein being responsible for 9/11, and even lied about whether he ever linked saddam to 9/11. Why should we listen to what dick cheney says now about the vaue of torture towards our national safety? If there were actually any truth to the belief that torture delivered reliable information that would be one thing. But drown me 83 times and I'll likely tell you whatever I think will make you stop.
Also I'm furious that npr continues to use euphamisms to describe torture. 'Enhanced interrogation techniques' sounds like a good cop/bad cop scenario from a tv show. 'Waterboarding' sounds like a fun day at the beach with a surfboard. At some point along the line, we lose our humanity and revert back into animals by bringing pain to our enemies, one drowning at a time.
And was the 40th drowning any more effective than the 39th? What about the 41st? Or the ones that followed. Truly you're not doing your job as the vigilant press if you concede to dick cheney's wishes and unquestiningly act as spokesmodels for the worst presidential regime in American history. Ever. I'm losing my ability to trust npr's reporting since they've so readily acquiesced to the storyline provided by the hypocritical and conniving war criminals who got us into this expensive, unneccessary, bloody debacle in Iraq.
