A daily blog in defense of liberalism and the President.
Well it is Monday and Tim Geithner has everyone’s panties in a bunch over his statement about taxes. I didn’t even hear the man say one way or another we were going to do anything except that they would not rule out tax increases because as he said, "we need to do what it takes". That actually sounds like he is being responsible, but of course in modern American politics responsibility is something people want to hear about. The American people who are too stupid for their own good want to hear how we can fix everything, make your life better, cut taxes, build new roads, and it will all be free and no one will have to pay anything. It isn’t all the fault of the public though, let us be fair, politicians over the last 30 years have been passing the buck to the next congress and they pass it on, so on and so on. Well folks our collective chickens are coming to roost and if we don’t actually begin to be adults who face our problems head on and stop crying about this or that or why should I have to sacrifice anything, then we are screwed, and I mean all of us, so don’t get your panties in a bunch and if we need to bring in more revenue that is actually being fiscally responsible so shut up, stop saying the President said he would raise taxes, and just calmly watch what happens.
Should the Senate put more money in the "Cash for Clunkers" program? I say yes. This is actually something that is working and selling cars goes along way in keeping people at work, and moving the economy forward. Not to mention we have tons of dangerous old cars out their on the roads today, so anything that makes driving safer, helps both the citizenry upgrade their autos, and keeps workers in their jobs is good for America and during these tough times needs to continue.
So John King tried to do a piece explaining what a "Bluedog Democrat" was. He should have just said a Republican who somehow ran for congress as a Democrat, or a Republican who maybe thinks women should have a right of choice. Either way these Bluedogs are Democrats in name only and will vote anyway is necessary to keep their sets, but I for one would just as soon they loose their next elections because it is pointless to have Democrats who are not going to stand by the party when it is most necessary, so pretending to be a Democrat when we are trying to finally get healthcare reform done only makes the entire party look weak and ineffectual.
Now we come to the Philosopher of the Week, and because I have been in the mood for some Chinese food, we are going to do Confucius who said, "By three methods we may learn wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest." Experience is always the bitterest, but sometimes it is just plain necessary for education. Confucius also said, "Faced with what is right, to leave it undone shows a lack of courage." They should hang this quote on the fucking wall in Congress because maybe with a little courage our elected officials might actually get something done. Well friends until tomorrow I must say goodbye....
