Did John McCain just signal he won't be seeking re-election in 2010? He may as well have.
The good Senator won't support Sonia Sotomayor for SCOTUS this week.
Republican Sen. John McCain says he'll oppose Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor when the Senate votes on her confirmation this week.
Sotomayor
This is an interesting in altogether delicious development. McCain refers to Sotomayor as a judicial activist. Ummmm yeah...
What's more intriguing is tha McCain is either signaling that he won't run again in 2010 or he may be setting himself up for a huge defeat. By joining his fellow Arizona Senator John Kyl, he risks raising the ire of the rather substantial Hispanic voting bloc in his home state.
Arizona has one of the largest Hispanic populations in the United States. So what does this say about the GOP? Sotomayor, as has been stated over and over, is the most qualified nominee in decades. Yet, these grumpy old men continue to disregard her, her experience and life story by calling it judicial activism.
Nevermind that McCain's BFF Lindsay Graham said that he will support the nominee. Nevermind that Graham actually sounded as if he researched her legal cases to come up with that decision.
McCain is back to going all mavericky. Maybe he thinks it's a safe bet, or perhaps he's just confused.
Party of NO? I don't know what to call the GOP any longer. They have taken partisan hackery to new lows. You can only hope that the Democratic Party holds of imploding so that it can be taken advantage.
