Yesterday, Keith Olbermann rightly labeled Hannity the world's worst person for claiming that Obama had said that insurance executives are bad people. That is clearly not what Obama said. In fact, his statement implies that they are not bad people, and rather the reason for their actions (that result in thousands of deaths) is that it is profitable.
Insurance executives don't do this because they are bad people. They do it because it's profitable.
I'm afraid I have to disagree with this defense of insurance CEOs. Just because something is profitable doesn't mean it is right. There are plenty of examples of unethical, but profitable, lines of work. Imagine this:
Hitmen don't [kill people] because they are bad people. They do it because it's profitable.
Keep in mind that killing people for profit is exactly what insurance CEOs are doing. I mean, I was under the impression that if you kill people for profit, you are a bad person - you are a motherfucking bad person. I can think of very few things that can make you a worse person that killing others for money.
I know this is a small thing to pick out of a lengthy speech, but it's something that needs to be addressed. We live in a capitalist society, and it's not working for our most important challenges. Healthcare is just one example of the glaring failure. Capitalism, and the pursuit of wealth warps our ethics so badly that the president of this nation can try to justify killing other people with the defense of "it's profitable."
Mind blowing, really...
