This isn't much of a diary. It's just a plea for more Kossacks - and anyone else who wants to see some civility restored to our government - to donate just a bit more money to the campaign of Rob Miller for Congress. We're very, very close to hitting that symbolic $1,000,000 mark - from ActBlue alone!
Just a bit. Not a lot. A buck, five bucks, maybe 10 bucks. I just tossed in an extra five dollars myself.
I don't live in South Carolina - I'm in Kentucky. We do get the news here, though, and it's being said that the wingnuts have raised over a million dollars for Joe Wilson (Asshat, SC-02). He's now a redneck hero. We can do better!
The district where Miller is trying to wrest a seat from Wilson is not all that secure for Wilson. There are about 670,000 people in it, so it's not a tiny rural area, and I think it includes Columbia.
Things we cannot expect from our money if we help Rob Miller get elected:
- Rob Miller will not necessarily be beholden to us. Remember, though, that money talks and bullshit walks. We follow the money when it comes to health care reform, and Miller will surely remember where the money that (hopefully) elected him came from.
- Rob Miller may not support all of our positions.
Things we can expect from our money if we can help get Rob Miller elected:
1. Miller will remember who paid for his election - Progressives who are willing to shell out a little cash for a decent cause.
2. Restoration of civility in Congress.
I'm begging for a bit more money for Miller because our country can do better than Joe Wilson. True, we don't know many of the things Miller stands for. But we do know that he does NOT stand for the fringiest of the right-wing fringe. In this case, let not the perfect be the enemy of the good. (GAWD, I swore I'd never use that phrase!)
Kossacks alone have raised more than a quarter of a million dollars for Miller, and as of this writing, ActBlue overall has raised $ 917,799 for him. We're so close to making it a million...
We can do this. YES WE CAN. Please - if you can spare a few bucks - make another small donation to Miller's campaign. His ActBlue page is here.
