As an action diary, this one will be short, but I want to pass the word about a powerful public option rally that will be happening in New York City's Chelsea district today at 5 pm.
Details follow below.
At 5 pm today, Chelsea residents will gather at the SW corner of 8th Avenue and 26th Street to line 8th Avenue holding letters which will spell out P U B L I C O P T I O N N O W for as many blocks as there are bodies. Jane Hogg, the event organizer, is expecting about 200 people and is prepared for more.
This event will make a great visual for the pro-health care reform side because it will involve a majority of seniors who live in the Penn South development in Chelsea. Seniors will be showing up in wheelchairs and with walkers and canes in support of health care reform providing a poignant visual to counter what has been seen at town halls. One of the participants has been working on publicity for the event and we expect to have media coverage. We are also hoping that students who attend FIT, just across the avenue, will be inspired to pick up a letter and stand with us.
If you are in the New York area and can be in Chelsea at 5PM, please come and join with the seniors and show 8th Avenue rush hour traffic support for a public option! You'll find us at 26th and 8th and further north.
