So, a week ago I blogged on Glenn Greenwald's great article on ACORN, it made it to the top of the rec list, and the dkos community responded, in a huge way.
If you didn't see Rachael's piece on ACORN last night, you really, really need to watch the clip below.
It is so great to finally see some top-line progressive figures really go out there and throw down for ACORN. They need all the help they can get, right now. It is a travesty how so many bloggers(including here on dailykos) have been using the GOP's fixation with destroying ACORN as fodder for their posts, and yet there has been no serious fundraising effort here in the netroots. If we can raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for Joe Wilson's pretty much unknown opponent, then we should be able to do even more for the nation's largest group of organized low and middle income families.
So, frontpagers, consider the gauntlet thrown. My suggestion is to set goals based on how many times ACORN has been mentioned on this site, that only seems fair, and it should raise the folks at ACORN a chunk of change.
But, until kos and the other frontpagers step up, donate here.
UPDATE: As of this writing, the poll is 80% FOR big netroots ACORN fundraiser/20% against. While this doesn't mean anything will happen, I hope the frontpagers are paying attention and talking to other bloggers about setting something up.
FINAL UPDATE: I've gotta go, but I want to draw attention that by an 82%-17% margin, the DKos community is voting in support of a major netroots fundraiser for ACORN.
Here is a link to a diary, from earlier in the week, where I try and make the case for why I think this is important.
