When Massa dies of cancer, will the widow of this veteran stand beside Glenn Beck?
I'm sick of all the Democrats here on dailykos and at other liberal blogs who piled on and even joked about how fun it was to imagine Rahm stepping into a man's shower, naked, and sticking his finger in his chest, telling him to vote for the health care bill. Which he stood to the left of, because it contained no public option.
Yeah, that's the liberal way. Bully your opponents by physically humiliating them.
Worked for Lyndon Johnson. Funny how liberals don't seem to think much of his use of it.
Funny how they're a lot more willing to talk about whether Massa, himself, did any of this. Yet the report of the charge against Massa, is that in a drunken party situation, someone said something inappropriate to him, and he responded sarcastically in kind, while making the employee sitting next to him potentially uncomfortable, when he put an arm around him or some such. Not so uncomfortable that this guy has come forward however --- the report comes from someone who watched the scene.
Okay, are you willing to believe that this freshman congressman really acted more sexually inappropriately at a party with an employee than 60% of the rest of our men in Congress, who have been there for years? Does it really seem likely that no other more inappropriate behavior has been witnessed at parties on the Hill? That the ethics committee really thought this was more inappropriate than anything else they'd seen recently with their own eyes?
Oh, come on, you know better. Sure he shouldn't have done it, but the situation was not sexually charged. This isn't the governor of a state asking a naive hotel clerk to come to his room, to find him standing there with his penis out, among a group of men, asking for a blow job.
And here's a man who has spent decades serving his country in the military, who went to Congress to make a difference, to stick up for his principles, and now as he's dying, his honor has been tarnished.
And we're the ones jumping on the bandwagon to tarnish him.
Because it's impossible to sink lower than to appear on a talk show. He is obviously a traitor --- the kind whose record in Congress shows he's supported all of our liberal causes --- but a traitor.
And you know what we should do with traitors? Especially the ones who've just learned they're going to die? We should dishonor them. Must be hard to leave the loyalty of the military to encounter that kind of thing in Congress. A place you should be proud to serve in. A place you work your ass off to get in and then work your ass off voting for what you believe in --- for liberal causes.
Sorry, but we all know there are is a division among the Democratic party between the Rahm Emmanuel big business "moderates" and the liberals.
I'm not here to say that incremental improvement on health is a bad thing or that I agree with Massa's no vote. But I am here to say that I don't like people pretending that his suggestion that he was singled out for this ethics investigation has no merit. It sounds very likely, and dishonorable. I'll take that back when we go after all of the other Congressmen who have behaved similarly or, more likely, worse.
I don't like liberals laughing when a Rahm pressures a liberal in a humiliating fashion.
I don't like the way we've behaved when one of the leaders of this country --- and all the members of Congress should be so described --- is dying. And instead of offering him our support, helping him, understanding what he is going through, his desire for an honorable legacy, to speak Truth to Power, as so many people like to say --- I don't like when we ravage him for that.
I thought that's what we had conservatives for.
No wonder Democrats in Congress don't stick together. They let their ideals or their pocket books trump old-fashioned concepts like decency and loyalty and compassion and letting a man have his say.
What will the widow of Eric Massa say about Glenn Beck? After what she's seen her husband go through from his supposed "friends" for even mentioning his desire for freedom of speech --- I imagine she'll say nothing.
