The Huffington Post has just released information on where the 2012 Democratic Convention might be held.
Three cities are in the running as the choice of site for the 2012 Democratic National Convention; Philadelphia, Phoenix, and Charlotte. I'd like to discuss which of the three cities would be the best city to host the convention? Here are the pros and cons IMHO of each city.
Philadelphia: PRO- The sixth largest city in the country and in a "swing state." Hosting the 2012 DNC would help President Obama with the Democratic base.
CON- Pennsylvania has gone Democratic in every Presidential election since 1992 and Obama won PA by double digits in 2012. It may be a waste for Obama and the Democrats to host the convention there.
Phoenix: PRO- The fifth largest city in the country and a fast growing state and city. Could help the Democrats with the massive Latino population and new residents along with southwestern voters.
CON- Arizona is a traditionally Republican state. If Obama is trailing in polls, it may be futile to host the convention in a state where he may have no choice.
Charlotte: PRO- The largest city in North Carolina and a banking mecca. Hosting the convention in North Carolina could help the Democrats with African American voters and northeastern transplants while given a since to southerners they are not being ignored.
CON- North Carolina is generally a Republican Presidential city; while Obama narrowly won the state in 2008, the last Democrat to win NC was Jimmy Carter. The Democrats despite being the majority party in the Tar Heel State since they control most of the state offices, both chambers of the legislature, and an 8-5 majority in the House of Represntatives may be fighting a lost cause.
If there are other cities worthy to be mentioned, feel free to give a shoutout and reason for it!
