{insert image of me getting out Blanche Lincoln voodoo doll & pins here} DAMMIT! A run - off in Arkansas...oh well... I gotta admit being a little nervous, though. Don't incumbents usually win run - offs? Remember what happened to the GA Senate seat after President Obama's election? A run - off was needed down there, and the GOP swooped down in a BIG WAY, and boil - on - the - butt - of - humanity Saxby Chambliss managed to slither his way back into the Senate.
Y'all can't tell me that after what happened to Arlen Specter last night that the "establishment Dems" won't swoop into Arkansas over the next weeks to prevent Blanchie from being Spectered with all their money, clout, etc. The more this process goes on, the better it will be for her. I'm sorry to be a Negative Nelly, but that's what my gut's telling me. Of course, my gut told me there would be no way Barack Obama would win Indiana, too! :) So, we'll see.
Scandal & notoriety abound in "this day in history" items for today! On this date in 1536, Anne Boleyn, the second wife of England's King Henry VIII, was beheaded after being convicted of adultery. So, he creates his own damn church just so he could marry her, she doesn't give him a son, so he wacks her head off - JERK!
On this date in 1962, Marilyn Monroe performed a sultry rendition of "Happy Birthday" for President John F. Kennedy during a fund-raiser at New York's Madison Square Garden.
And, in a damn DAMN ironic twist of fate in timing, on this date in 1994, former first lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis died in New York at age 64.
OK, this next item will be a repeat if any of y'all read Cheers & Jeers today, but I need to sort of defend "my state" here. On this date in 1992, Vice President Dan Quayle criticized the CBS sitcom Murphy Brown because the title character chose to have a child out of wedlock. Yes, some of us "Hoosiers" are so gosh - darned proud of Danny {insert me retching here} for this & SO MANY other reasons. However, I put it to you, Gregg...er...uh...F.O.O. that Dan Quayle makes THIS ONE look like he belongs in MENSA!
Finally, in a birthday to probably make a whole lotta people feel, if Pete Townshend was an American citizen, he'd be eligible for Social Security today; he's 65!
Let's Countdown - sultry serenades & guitar smashing optional!
#5 "Primary Politics" AKA "Primary Schooled" AKA "Cloture Clash" - Wow, Keith brought up something in the intro to the first segment that I’d totally spaced; Joe Sestak was WAY behind just a couple weeks ago. Then, THAT AD aired – that brilliant short, sweet, and to – the – point ad; then, everything changed.
Gadzooks! Who was in charge of counting how many times Rand Paul said "Kentucky" & "tea party"?! S(He) should get golden ear plugs & a raise. I already discussed my feelings about Arkansas above. Blanchie is still complaining about "outside groups." Honey, you forgot your ballot – HA! GOP Congress critters are thinking they’ll take the majority in November. {hee...hee...hee...} Look who’s here!
Richard thinks ideology is going on with both sides & with what happened last night. He also thinks the Dem Senate candidate in Kentucky has a decent shot of winning! The financial reform bill failed to garner enough votes to end debate. 2 GOP Senators voted to end debate & vote (Collins & Snowe), but 2 Dems voted against ending debate (Cantwell & Feingold). Senator Cantwell is demanding her amendment be voted on; Senator Feingold doesn’t think the current bill goes far enough.
Here’s Ezra Klein to talk financing & banking. He made a good point; this bill has actually gotten stronger as it’s languished in the Senate! Hasn’t Senator Dorgan threatened to "tarantino," too? The GOP ain’t in the greatest position on this bill. By opposing it, they look like they’re on Wall Street’s & bankers’ sides, and that position isn’t causing any political damage to the Dems. If anyone from the GOP stops "just saying no," it’ll look like a HUGE victory for Dems. Blanchie’s amendment survived challenge from Senator Dodd & the White House. This portion of the bill could get bandied about in a conference committee.
#4 "GOP Hypocrisy" AKA "Ethics & Hypocrisy" - Rep. Mark Souder (part of that infamous 1994 class) resigned yesterday because of the revelation of an affair he had with one of his female staffers. My morning radio silly guys this morning claimed the GOP’s just thrilled that he was fooling around with a WOMAN – HA!
And, to repeat what I said numerous times yesterday, sadly, for comedic reasons, he was not my Rep. Mine is Andre Carson – a heathen Muslim with a wife & a couple of daughters! The timing & consequences & outrage concerning Rep. Souder’s behavior in comparison to Rep. Eric Massa’s behavior are...interesting. Maybe, once again, because Rep. Massa may have messed with guys! How ‘bout that video he made with his staffer with whom he screwed around concerning abstinence – only education? Rep. Souder needed a refresher course in THAT particular area – or at least that commandment! Or, to make things easier to remember, just remember the commandments according to George Carlin!
David Weigel gets to talk Congress critter screwing around – lucky him. And, that video thing...I DO NOT WANT TO KNOW what may have been going on under the table!
#3 "The Face of Immigration" - The White House is hosting a state dinner for the President of Mexico and his wife. Today, a 2nd grader in Maryland voiced concerns about her mother to Michelle Obama because her Mom didn’t have "papers," and she was afraid President Obama would take her Mom away. Nice... Are ya’ happy now, Governor Jan Brewer, you cold heartless racist xenophobic BITCH??!!
Here’s Rep. Luis Gutierrez. I can’t even imagine what was going through Mrs. Obama’s head today. Rep. Gutierrez gives the American people a whole lot more credit than I do. Remember what that Congress critter out in California said about kids born in this country from undocumented workers? And, how ‘bout those tea baggers that the GOP Kentucky Senate candidate is so fond of tea bagging?! Rep. Gutierrez thinks President Obama is trying but not hard enough. L.A. is going to boycott the "Show Me Your Papers" state for conventions & other city business. Said state responded by threatening to cut their power.
"Tea Time" The chairman of the Tea Party Express had this to say about a proposed mosque near Ground Zero in New York City:
The monument would consist of a mosque for the worship of the terrorists’ monkey – god (repeat: ‘the terrorists’ monkey – god.’ If you feel that fits a description of Allah then that is your own deep – seated emotional baggage not mine, talk to the terrorists who use Allah as their excuse and the Muslims who apologize for and rationalize them) and a ‘cultural center’ to propagandize for the extermination of all things not approved by their cult.
Well, wasn’t THAT special? And, tea baggers in Hawaii are attacking a school kid for a poster created for a class about propaganda.
WPITW – Grandma ExGov TurkeyLover gave her way – less – than 2 cents’ worth about the elections yesterday {refer to image above}. The NV Senate Chicken candidate is denying what she said about chickens as health care policy even though it’s on tape. An Alabama superintendent finally did put a geometry teacher on leave for using the assassination of President Obama as a geometry lesson. Keith asked why said lesson isn’t clearly unacceptable to a superintendent in Alabama. Keith, honey, I’ve got 3 words for you: Senator Jeff Sessions.
#1 "Oil Rigged" AKA "Oil in the Loop, People Out" AKA "Oil: the President’s Men" - The oil in the Gulf is in the Gulf stream to take the sludge to the Florida Keys and possibly up part of the East Coast. 10 environmentalists in a very empty committee room asked that BP no longer be "in charge" of the clean – up efforts. I’d go along with that request since they’re doing so damn well up to this point. Robert Redford has made a short video about safe, clean, renewable energy. YIKES! Upcoming shallow comment, but Robert Redford has not aged well AT ALL! Mr. Redford also needs to move his little film festival out of a state that inflicted its morality & intolerance on another state and said residents’ personal lives in the Prop 8 $hit! BP is going to try another capping method. MMS actually warned BP about the drilling site where 11 oil workers were killed and the oil doing so much damage!
Even GOP Congress critters want more government action! Mr. Redford thinks President Obama needs to be more of a leader & put some energy behind preventing future disasters like the Gulf oil spill from happening again. He also thinks a climate change/environmental bill needs to be debated & voted upon NOW. Mr. Redford, however, has high praise for Ken Salazar! SAY WHAT?! He was & is in bed with the damn oil companies!
