In a couple of days, it will be approximately two weeks since Fishgrease made his colorful oil booming diary.
I read this place almost daily. I never saw it. I got linked instead to a video reenactment from Slashdot comments, yesterday. I found out the original was from Daily Kos here oh, about an hour ago.
In the midst of that, there's been nonsense about using seagoing centrifuges, using supertankers to gather the oil for later separation - citing a similar recovery operation where the surface spill was measured in meters of thickness rather than microns, and no human being could possibly catalog every bit of nonsense thrown forth regarding this spill.
Not even Obama.
All criticism of our leaders needs to carry with it the realization that they are in fact, fucking human beings. Powerful leaders attract the attention of fucking sociopaths and fucking sycophants who want to make the best of their own personal situations, giving fuck all to anyone and everyone else.
A good leader knows this. A good leader tries to compensate by getting information from many sources, but when the corruption of our media, government and industry is backed by hundreds of billions of dollars, it can take time for the truth to reveal itself.
I can think of many reasons to criticize Obama, here, but we cannot expect our leaders to be an expert on every subject. He needs actual experts that he can trust to advise him on the matter, after the situation has been brought to his attention.
Meanwhile, a major city has been flooded, North Korea has torpedoed a South Korean vessel, financial reform is finally getting passed... Do I really need to make the point that the President has a lot on his plate right now?
Over this specific incident, I will withhold my criticism of Obama over Fishgrease's booming lesson until I know he has both found out about it and subsequently failed to act appropriately. Whatever that might mean for this situation.
Like everyone else half-helplessly watching this clusterfuck unfold, I want to see heads roll. I want to see Transocean and British Petroleum dismantled as legal entities, all property and possessions of its executives seized and sold off to the highest bidder to help pay for the cost of this. Jail time would just be a bonus.
What I want to see more than anything, though, is that the heroes in this situation be found and recognized. We all know they're down there, in the Gulf, working for what they believe in and not their own hides. Those people need to be found, recognized, rewarded, and asked to replace the corrupt and/or inept who bungled this operation.
There needs to be a silver lining in this.
Thank you for reading.
