I don't often write diaries in direct support of Obama and the Democratic Party, I usually leave that to more dedicated party activists.
I have even be called sometimes anti-the good man because I concentrate on my ideological principles. However, there comes a time to pick sides and godammit in this political and economic climate quite frankly that ain't fucking hard to do.
They have produced a landmark health care reform.
They have produced a landmark financial reform.
They have bailed out the economy.
I use they because as I have often stated I am well to the left of the Democratic Party. The legislation passed so far has hardly been to my personal satisfaction, then again it has helped millions of people get by.
Will I continue to fight for better, of course. Will I criticize, you better believe it. There are long term goals; and as a realist as well as an ideologue I know its a slow process.
Instant gratification is not on the cards.
To be blunt; I prefer fighting with Dem's rather than Republicans, because its is easier to have a debate, since being screamed at and called a traitor never made me change my mind.
Now considering all the good that has been done, and for once I will not dwell on the wars, the Democratic party finds themselves on the ropes against a resurgent and bloody minded Republican party.
I shudder to think what this recession/depression would have been like if they had been at the helm, the 1930's would have looked like a picnic is my view.
The President's weekly talk yesterday held some hope, some basic truths were said, but the rhetoric to my mind is too soft. Come on Mr President, you have a wonderful gift for public speaking, please use it more effectively.
The other side are behaving like a pack of rabid dogs, biting us all in the desperate attempt to grab power. They have nothing but fear and loathing driving their resurgence, yet it grabs the headlines everyday.
The left and the base need motivating, and the Democratic Party really need the base to be motivated to have any chance at all in November.
State your principles clearly and often, use the bully pulpit you have we cant do it for you.
Call out the Republicans and their Blue dog allies for what they are, saboteurs.
Can you imagine what it will be like if that asshole Boehner becomes leader of the House?
Being nice and bipartisan has not worked it has given the Republican party a platform from which to whinge and whine. 11 dimensional chess has been nixed by one dimensional howling checkers, its time to face reality; Americans only respond to confrontation.
If you are not willing to get your hands dirty and sacrifice a few blue dogs along the way we are going to be trounced. Its not about star status, its about numbers, if some refuse to budge then they should be jettisoned. There is no point wasting money and political capital on the corporately corrupted.
My humble advice:
Trumpet your successes.
Slam the Republicans at every opportunity for their obstruction.
Stop the bipartisan bullshit and that includes members of your own party, call them out, stop giving them succor.
The Republicans have nothing, not one damn thing except contempt for the average working person.
What have they proposed?
Protection and tax cuts for the rich and to repeal anything that helps 99% of Americans.
That's it, that is all they have, that is all they ever had, call the assholes out,
Seriously if you cant beat a party that lives and breathes for the top 1% who the hell can you beat?
Ye gawds!
Fight Goddammit.
ooops: got to have a poll
