OK, I don't write much here. In fact, summer has taken me away from the Orange Satan in favor of car trips, picnics and such other Suburban Mom type activities.
However, when I read Mr. Gibb's disdainful comments to the press concerning the "professional left"--i.e. anyone who actually believes in and supports policies that Mr. Obama espoused during his campaign--I got upset.
So I wrote a Strongly Worded Letter detailing my reaction and sent it to the White House web site. I'm sure that will change the course of history/snark. However, the comment lines were very slow, and I'm tired of being put down for my views and opinions despite my support.
Letter is below the fold!
I write as a member of the "non-professional left," a suburban housewife and registered Democrat who voted proudly and with relief for Mr. Obama, to object to Mr.Gibb's put-down of we who have supported, and continue to support, Mr. Obama.
You might call us "his base."
To dismiss our outrage at the dismantling of the American middle class through policies which favor corporations and the wealthy, and which also are diametrically opposite to Mr. Obama's explicitly stated campaign promises, is both infuriating and continually disheartening.
When I see billions of dollars being squandered on pointless military adventures and endless military projects while being told that our social safety net must be further trashed and dismantled as it is 'leftist', yes I get upset.
When told that Social Security is going bankrupt when the insanely simple 60-second solution is to tax ALL earned income, I get upset.
When the continuing catastrophic levels of unemployment are treated as a non-emergency I get upset.
This is how empires fall. Down this road lies a world bereft of a viable middle class, composed of feudal elites and their impoverished peons.
Following through on the excellent policies enumerated in Mr. Obama's campaign promises would be both good policy, and invigorate a currently disheartened Democratic base.
I know it certainly would bring a bit more hope back into my life, for me and for my children's future.
Currently I am urging my children to find work in other countries after college, as there seems to be no stable future for bright, educated young people in a society which has no jobs, and which will not make the significant investments necessary in either people or infrastructure.
I would be delighted to be proved wrong, and to see this country head in the direction of economic justice for all--even those who are not connected to corporations, great wealth, or the government. Until then, I will try to launch my precious children to a country with a stable safety net, which believes in its people as its most important resource no matter their economic worth--even leftists.
Sincerely,
Non-Professional Leftist

Well, not much more to add. Just thought I'd share by throwing this into the ocean of diaries.
Go out and push for those leftist policies!
