Rudi Giuliani, the "hero" of 9/11, America's Mayor, has spoken about the proposed Islamic Center a few blocks from the site of the World Trade Center.
His words are hardly heroic.
Ever since the artificial but heated controversy over the planned Cordova House has flared up, I have been asking myself, "Where the hell is Hizzoner Rudi Giuliani? What does he have to say about this?"
Normally, you can't slip a piece of tissue paper between him and a television camera. Unless I've missed something, I haven't heard a peep out of him about this.
Hizzoner has now spoken.
Giuliani against proposed mosque near ground zero

NEW YORK — Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani says a proposed Islamic center and mosque near ground zero would create more division, anger and hatred.
Speaking on NBC's "Today" show Thursday, Giuliani questioned whether the center's leader Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf is really committed to healing.
Giuliani says that if Rauf is really about healing, he won't go forward with the project because of the pain it would cause some family members of those who died in the Sept. 11 terror attacks.
Giuliani says Rauf is "selling sensitivity." But he says the imam cannot do that by "creating this vicious, sort of angry battle that's going on."
Right, Rudi, the Imam is responsible for the fact that anti-Muslim bigotry has created this vicious, sort of angry battle that's going on.
Now that Rudi has punked out and caved in to the haters, what has Dubya to say about this? For all his faults, he did stress that our conflict is with violent extremists who are attempting to hijack Islam just like they hijacked the airliners. This time around, Dubya's silence is defeaning.
Ted Olson has spoken forthrightly. Are there any other grown-ups and responsible people left in the GOP?
