POLITICO made a fool of itself when a lead post suggesting that terrorism is Democrats' nightmare. Here is the quote: "And yet the White House’s response to last week’s attempt to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight to Detroit could rank as one of the low points of the new president’s first year. Over the course of five days, Obama’s Obama’ reaction ranged from low-keyed to reassuring to, finally, a vow to find out what went wrong. The episode was a baffling, unforced error in presidential symbolism, hardly a small part of the presidency, and the moment at which yet another of the old political maxims that Obama had sought to transcend – the Democrats’ vulnerability on national security – reasserted itself."

This silly attempt to paint Democrats as softies, set me to post a comment on their blog and cross-post my comment, here at KOS.
The greatest nightmare is when Americans reduce National Security to a political football. Instead of serious and somber reflections on the difficulties ahead, journalists who are supposed to look at events with good amount of objectivity, have chosen to inject stupidity into life and safety of Americans.
To even suggest that a failed bombing attempt on NWA flight a few weeks ago will be Democrats' nightmare is so stupid to even put it mildly.
Do you think that a terrorist distinguish a Republican from a Democrats when he or she is attacking Americans? Since Republicans are the ones good with National security, why didn't they pass a law when they were in power and ask for only Republican soldiers, marines, sailors and National guard. Let's see how many shows up to fight your wars.
Politicize national security at your peril. Under a Republican administration, this nation was savagely attacked. The Twin Towers in New York City were taken down. The Pentagon, the crown jewel of power was attacked. Over 4,000 Americans murdered.
Fast forward to 2010. We are in two wars that a Republican president started, costing more than a trillion dollars. You call that an enviable record of success that Democrats should be afraid to challenge? Or that the underwear Nigerian bomber has finally torched the Democrats' weakness?
What kind of journalism are you guys at POLITICO really practicing? Yellow journalism? Tell me a single way President Obama's response to the failed bomber different from President's Bush response to the shoe bomber, Richard Reed? Tell you what, Obama was more forthright and three days earlier than Bush's response which took him a week to reference the unsuccessful attack in passing.
Everything to you is politically expandable including National Security. Go on, dig your grave, help elect the next cowboy and bellicose administration.
To even raise Terrorism as Democrats' nightmare shows how inept you guys are at POLITICO.
I think that liberals, progressives and democrats should lead offensive charge against this national security crap of Republicans before they do further damage to this nation.
