OK, I'm not usually big on a. response diaries or b. short diaries, but something is amiss here.
I'm speaking of this rec listed diary.
Premise of said diary is that Rep. John Shadegg, conservative Republican extraordinaire, is warning Democrats that Hey! He's with the progressives because the health care bill sucks!
And therefore, backlash will ensue in 2010.
There is something waaay fishy here, though...
As we know, Shadegg announced his retirement today.
So, what am I missing here? The political climate is so very, very good for Republicans this year because of the health care reform bill that hasn't even passed yet...
that Shadegg decided to retire?
Is it me that has a logical disconnect here, or is it the world? Because I must have missed something in Politics 101 class.
Remember, Shadegg ain't exactly small fish here. He ran for Majority Leader and Majority Whip before. If the Republicans really did have the wind in their sails, Shadegg could be front and center in that effort and pull a Newt Gingrich or something similar in the leadership.
Instead, he's bailing.
So I guess I'm wondering, from my perspective...what exactly is the warning that Shadegg is giving Democrats again?
Because his actions sure as hell don't seem as confident as his words.
