I am new here to DailyKos...and admittedly my political participation has been limited to the following: voting, jury duty, hanging placards for Obama at the end of his campaign 2008. I just didn't care much until I saw his handsome face appear on MSNBC @11 pm eastern time. The projected winner of the 2008 Presidential election is (I love Keith Olbermann's voice)...
As a recovering pessimist, or a born again optimist, yes, I am in the bag for Obama. Go ahead. Let me have it. Done now, ok fine. Now that you are done with your ranting and have put away your sharp knives, we have to keep working.
Why?
What is the alternative? Palin/Romney 2012. Is that what you want? No..
Remember, the other side is persistent, tenacious, blood thirsty and hateful. I respect the GOP for their tenacity and persistence. They hate us. They see us as evil. No wonder because we look like cowards 'cause that's how we act. The minute it looks a little difficult and things don't go our way we turn tail and run. I am not running or giving up after the terrrible aughts we have suffered through.
I support Jennifer Brunner for U.S. Senate for Ohio.
Why?
I came here to DailyKos to learn how to elect more and better Democrats. Here I am to elect more/better Democrats. Jennifer Brunner fits both the more and better Democrat. Jennifer Brunner can win against Rob Portman. Lee Fisher likely cannot win against Rob Portman. You can do your own research on Lee Fisher and Rob Portman. I am a fan of Jennifer Brunner for the simple fact that she brought truth and justice back to the voting booth in Ohio after RW radical Republican J. Kenneth Blackwell screwed up so massively in 2000/2004. Because I grew up here but spent most of my adult life outside of Ohio, I have always loved Ohio and have observed the happenings from afar. I didn't live here during the ninties or the "roaring aughts", but now I am here and engaged.
Jennifer Brunner is a progressive voice in the wilderness.
Jennifer Brunner is a woman who can win the "Hillary voters".
Jennifer Brunner is an energizing force for the base.
Jennifer Brunner has integrity.

Why?
Why replace an old ineffective Republican with a young, dangerous, RW radical Republican Bushie? Let's face it, supply-side economics has not been the best medicine for Ohio, or for our country. I think that supply-side economics is a job killer. Of course, Republicans give lip service to jobs, but they just don't care and don't make it happen for us in the bottom and middle. Jennifer Brunner can help President Obama bring us back to a better equilibrium. She won statewide office in 2006, all by herself, not riding anyone's coattails. She needs better fundraising and better contact with the netroots, but she can compete.
I am so tired of feeling like this is not my country...of course it is.
Lee Fisher likely cannot win. He looks weak because the Cuyahoga County (Cleveland) Democratic Party is not endorsing him in the May primaries. Cuyahoga County is Fisher's home county. This is a big deal. It should be a no brainer for Lee Fisher to get that endorsement, but he didn't. Lee Fisher was afraid to share a stage with Jennifer Brunner in the Hamilton County Democratic Women's Caucus. He is afraid so he brings up money. This makes Cuyahoga County fertile ground for Jennifer Brunner. Lee Fisher has used intimidation to try to push Brunner out of the race by again using the money advantage that he has. Jennifer Brunner was not intimidated and has filed for US Senate with 2250 signatures from 53 counties. He apparently has solicited support from the DSCC. Now I respect our friends in DC, but they seem to forget 'all politics is local', and Fisher is just too establishment being a NE Ohio pol for ~ 30 years. He also looks weak in the polls (especially in the Rasmussen report) against Portman especially considering that Fisher has been running and raising money for a year. Jennifer Brunner is in an almost dead-heat against Portman in the same poll (40-43).
I just don't see Fisher energizing our base especially the youth who turned out big for Obama. We need to keep them energized. The way to a Democratic win is through NE Ohio. Fisher looks like a loser to me (with no ideas for job creation) in an anti-establishment midterm election. Again, this presents an excellent opportunity for Jennifer Brunner.
This is an open seat where Republican George Voinovich has not done much for Ohio. I used to be a fan of his, NOT NOW! This state can be conservative, but Ohio did elect Sherrod Brown. I was surprised, then I remembered Howard Metzenbaum. Metzenbaum was awesome. Of course we can have two Democratic senators again. Let's turn Ohio bluer. I hate hedging by saying "likely", but I have to say again that Lee Fisher likely cannot win. Let's elect a better Democrat in Jennifer Brunner.
It is very clear that voting isn't good enough anymore. You don't vote for one man (Barack Hussein Obama) and sit back waiting to get your goodies.
I can and will make it happen.
I can and will make a difference.
I am one voice. I am canvassing. I am engaged. I am in the bag for Jennifer Brunner.

UPDATE:
Just when I thought things could not get more entertaining, Rob Portman (R), loyal Bushie, is getting teabagged. Our local successful car salesman Tom Ganley is attacking Portman from the right. Ganley has big money to spend on ads during the local news and the 7pm hr. near primetime on the ABC affiliate WEWS. Of course, he is lying but what else is new. What can you expect from a guy who has been selling cars for >45 years?
