I've sent some strongly worded emails in the past fews months, Mr. President, not to mention some going all the way back to when you first announced your financial team. I've also posted some strongly worded comments on the Daily Kos web site and other forums. You could say that I've been frustrated and disappointed by some things, and I know a lot of other people who think like me have too. I'm sure you've heard from them. In this letter, though, I won't get into all of the many criticisms and suggestions and disappointments I have expressed in these letters and comments. Today is not the day for that...
Today is not the day for that because you are my party's guy--the only one we have, the one we elected--and tonight you have to go before the whole country, including the members of the opposition party, the party of No. These opposition members may once again choose to call you a liar, or worse, in front of the Congress and the world. These opposition members and their proxies will go on TV after the speech saying extremely nasty things about you. These opposition members are not only rooting for you to fail, they are actively trying to bring it about. I am not.
As a listener myself tonight, I'll be doing my best to keep an open mind, to give you credit for being the President I hoped you were going to be, a President who would not only fight for a progressive agenda but truly change the national conversation and image from the conservative one that Reagan gave us, and which Clinton in his way reinforced. Even if I'm disappointed tonight (as I'm prepared to be) about certain aspects of your speech and the policy directions it portends, even if I'm ultimately let down by the actions you choose to take in the months and years ahead, on a night like this you are my party's guy, my President, and I'll be rooting for you. Good luck tonight, Mr. President. We are rooting for you.
Sincerely,
A (Sometimes Frustrated) Supporter
