I just got a call from a professional fundraising company, soliciting money for the Democratic Party. The woman rushed so quickly through the "disclaimer" that I don't know if it was for the DNC or for the DCCC, but whoever it was, I told her, "please tell them to call me back after they pass health care reform."
And honestly, I wonder why would it be so terrible if we all did this? I know we're always told we progressives "expect too much", but the thing is, the Dems in Congress have told us they will pass it, and President Obama just reiterated his desire that they pass it soon. But Congress never seems to feel any sense of urgency to get something done, even when they know they're going to do it. So why don't we just give them incentive to work faster? Seriously, if they get a good amount of the House bill back into the final product and really pass it, I will be happy to give them some money, because I will want to see they stay in office long enough for it to take effect and not be un-done by Republicans. So when I say, "call me back," I do mean it sincerely. Why is it so hard for progressives to just organize around this idea?
Also, I've said in a previous diary, I hate to have a third-party company call me fundraising for Dems, since that runs so counter to the idea of "us" the Democratic party thrives on (and, wouldn't it be more efficient to have direct employees doing the fundraising, so all the money we donate actually goes to the party?) Plus the caller ID gave me a fake name (or at least not the same name as the woman gave me) for the company, and I don't think the Democrats should be associated with that practice at all.
