Again, I go to Shakespeare, who said things so much better than I will ever be able to:
A plague o' both your houses..
Often quoted as "A pox on both your houses."
This is a famous quote from Romeo and Juliet. As Mercutio dies, he utters this phrase three times, cursing the families whose rivalry led to his death. The phrase is commonly applied to criticize warring factions whose rivalry brings ruin to others.
Pretty much boils down my feelings about the pissing-match that continues to be the "Wreck List" for the last several weeks.
More of what will, I'm sure, be the least-popular diary of the day (since it will have no natural cheering section) below the fold...
This ain't a GBCW diary (sorry, for those who might wish that it WAS a "GBCW" diary)
It's more a "WTF are you people drinking?" diary, if it needs to have a cute pigeonhole.
I thought for quite a while about what kind of diary I could write that could "talk people down" without adding to the volatility here.
I thought, perhaps, if I presented my own perspective (which, I, of course, feel is perfectly reasonable and rational) it might throw fire on some of the flames.
I could have made some civil statements about how "... apparent adoration of a politician makes some people justifiably uncomfortable, even when they like that politician.."
or "... FDL has its own website. Perhaps the discussion about their alliance w/ anti-progressive forces and posts from apologists should be there, instead of stinking up dKos?"
But I realized, there is absolutely no way to talk into this mess without becoming part of it.
Frankly, beyond any discussion of ideology or strategy, the one thing that pisses me off the most as a human being is when I think someone is trying to insult my intelligence w/ weak, manipulative arguments, because they can't find solid rationale to support their position.
Both sides of the "HCR bill vs FDL" side are doing that now...
Both sides of the "Obama is a master, game-changing politician" vs "Obama's just a politician"... side are doing that now.
Chrisakes, both sides of the petty "Dorgan was screwed" vs "Dorgan is a WATB.." debate at the top of the 'wreck' list are at it now.
Mercutio's last words in Romeo and Juliette are:
"Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man...."
It's a pun - the stupid rivalry has killed him, and he will soon be in his grave.
Just like the current volatile crap has basically killed most of the pleasure I ever got out of coming to dKos, for me and I suspect others as well.
