Remember how outraged we all were when we heard about the 79.99% interest rate on a credit card.........
well you'll just love this.
This is a true story.
My best friends have health insurance thru his employer. Its one of those companies that require the insured to fill their perscriptions
online at the company website pharmacy. And for 3 months per drug.
At varying co-pays per drug/per month (for example one drug might have a $20 co-pay resulting in a $60 out of pocket expense, others could be up to $50/month, meaning a $150 out of pocket expense. For this couple,
between the two of them their "health maintenance" perscriptions are running them around $2000/every three months.
They received their 2010 insurance cards and new plan information just
after christmas. They were shocked to find out the co-pays for their
medication had changed from the standard $20 - $50 to.........
Are you ready for this?
20% OF THE TOTAL COST OF THE PERSCRIPTION/PER MONTH!!!!!!!!
REALLY?
Just one of his wife's perscription for a cholesterol medication
was $500/3 months - OUT OF POCKET. $2000 FOR THIS DRUG PER YEAR.
Of course she cancelled the shipment, and called her doctor and
said sorry, can't take that pill anymore..........
and this is BEFORE REFORM! That must have been some deal Obama
made with BigPharma!
And to whom exactly should my friends complain? What agency
would stand up for them?
And what about me. I have 4 stents in my heart. If I stop
taking my drugs I will throw a clot and likely die.....but
I certainly can't afford my drugs if my employer switches to
this kind of "benefit".
Which congressman or woman will stand against this?
