Jack Conway and Rand Paul had a debate today. In it, Conway continued to prove why he is not only the best choice for Kentucky, and America, but why supporting him in the Orange to Blue campaign is so critical.
The debate was held this morning in Paducah.
Several key progressive issues came up, and on every single one of them Jack Conway hit what I believe is a home run.
On EFCA (AKA Card Check)
Rand Paul thinks that EFCA will simply "force unionization" on those who don’t want it.
Jack Conway thinks workers should have a right to unionize if enough workers support it:
"The ability to sit down and talk about the terms and conditions of your employment is a fundamental American right for workers, and I stand up for that,"
"And I think if 50 percent of workers want to form a union, they ought to be able to form a union."
On the Department of Education
Rand Paul thinks that the Dept of Ed is a waste of government space and money, because "local schools" can make decisions all on their own.
But what kind of shitty decisions does he think the Feds are going to be teaching little Johnny or Sally at school?
"I don't like the idea of somebody in Washington deciding that Susie has two mommies is an appropriate family situation," Paul said.
Ahhh yes, the "gay baiting" strategy that Keith discussed last night.
Imagine his snarky, sarcastic laugh here in Rand Paul’s direction.
But Jack Conway believes that the federal Pell Grant program is too important to get rid of, and that we need to be an "educated nation".
Well DUH!
We don’t wanna be a nation of idiots, and numbskulls, do we?
Wait, don’t answer that.
On Congressional Reform
Rand Paul calls for a 12 year cap on serving in Congress, urging potential voters to send him to DC only to "bring [him] back home".
Yeah, how bout they never send you in the first place?
What does Jack Conway think? Conway said he supports reforming the campaign finance system which would let people who are not gajillionaires to run for election to "make their own case" for being elected.
The only people who would find that system unfair or un-American are, of course, the gajillionaires.
On Health Care Act
Here’s where Mr. Conway shines like a bright shiny...light...of...Democracy!
Pressed by (Ayn) Rand Paul on why he didn’t jump into the idiot pool with other AG’s to sue the Feds over health care, Conway responded thusly:
Conway replied he was "amazed to get a lecture on constitutional law from a self-certified ophthalmologist"
Burn!
Conway also says that the lawsuits are a waste of government resources...and it is also pointed out in this article that Conway says he not only supports the law but wants to make it stronger.
Paul, of course, wants to deep-six it. Completely.
On Immigration Policy
Rand Paul likes Arizona’s SB 1070, and thinks the states should be able to pass more laws like that. ‘Nuff said.
Conway believes we need tougher enforcement, but also finished on this note:
"If someone is here illegally and committing crimes, send them back, and let's take people out of the shadows and turn them into taxpayers," Conway said.
A rational, sane, and humane way of dealing with the problem of immigration policy in this country.
It came from one man. Jack Conway.
Support him for Senate now if you haven’t already. We need someone like him as soon as possible!
