I know everyone engages Conservatives on Facebook and that sometimes it gets rather messy. I try to avoid it and often succeed. But sometimes, just sometimes, something catches my eye... like this:
Snope is owned by husband & wife team who are liberals. They are funded by Soros. Be careful what info you get from them. Occasionally they get it right. But go somewhere else & get your info to verify. They were right on with this though.
I was hooked. I had to research this to see where even the faintest smell of Soros had tainted the urban myth dispeller, Snopes.com. I found nothing to connect them, but I did find and post this:
Snopes.com is owned by David and Barbara Mikkelson of Agoura Hills, California. At no time have the Mikkelsons publicly stated a political preference or affiliation, or expressed support for any particular party or candidate.
Moreover, Barbara Mikkelson is a Canadian citizen, and as such cannot vote in U.S. elections or contribute to political campaigns. In a statement to FactCheck.org, David Mikkelson said his "sole involvement in politics" is voting on election day. In 2000 he registered as a Republican, documents provided to FactCheck.org show, and in 2008 Mikkelson didn't declare a party affiliation at all. Says Mikkelson: "I've never joined a party, worked for a campaign, or donated money to a candidate"
I thought perhaps the fact that he registered as a Republican might be worthy of the original posters investigation. No. Note in the center of the second paragraph that I source the piece. Despite this, the next post was this:
K, where did you find the info? from Snopes? They are funded by Soros!!!!

Snopes Exposed From Blogsphere
Snopes receives funding from an undisclosed source. The source is undisclosed because Snopes refuses to disclose that source. The Democratic Alliance, a funding channel for uber-Leftist (Marxist) Billionaires (George Soros etc.), direct funds to an "Internet Propaganda Arm" pushing these views. The Democratic Alliance has been reported to instruct Fundees to not disclose their funding source.
For the past few years www.snopes.com has positioned itself, or others have labeled it, as the 'tell-all final word' on any comment, claim and email. But for several years people tried to find out who exactly was behind snopes.com. It is run by a husband and wife team - that's right, no big office of investigators and researchers, no team of lawyers. It's just a mom-and-pop operation that began as a hobby. David and Barbara Mikkelson in the San Fernando Valley of California started the website about 13 years ago and they have no formal background or experience in investigative research.
The reason for the questions - or skepticisms - is a result of snopes.com claiming to have the bottom line facts to certain questions or issue when in fact they have been proven wrong. Also, there were criticisms the Mikkelsons were not really investigating and getting to the 'true' bottom of various issues.
A few months ago, when my State Farm agent Bud Gregg in Mandeville hoisted a political sign referencing Barack Obama and made a big splash across the Internet, 'supposedly' the Mikkelson's claim to have researched this issue before posting their findings on snopes.com. In their statement they claimed the corporate office of State Farm pressured Gregg into taking down the sign, when in fact nothing of the sort 'ever' took place. I personally contacted David Mikkelson (and he replied back to me) thinking he would want to get to the bottom of this and I gave him Bud Gregg's contact phone numbers - and Bud was going to give him phone numbers to the big exec's at State Farm in Illinois who would have been willing to speak with him about it. He never called Bud. In fact, I learned from Bud Gregg that no one from snopes.com ever contacted anyone with State Farm.Yet, snopes.com issued a statement as the 'final factual word' on the issue as if they did all their homework and got to the bottom of things - not!
Then it has been learned the Mikkelson's are very Democratic (party) and extremely liberal. As we all now know from this presidential election, liberals have a purpose agenda to discredit anything that appears to be conservative. There has been much criticism lately over the Internet with people pointing out the Mikkelson's liberalism revealing itself in their website findings. Gee, what a shock? So, I say this now to everyone who goes to snopes.com to get what they think to be the bottom line fact 'proceed with caution.' Take what it says at face value and nothing more. Use it only to lead you to their references where you can link to and read the sources for yourself. Plus, you can always search a subject and do the research yourself.
You'll note, she told me to read the sources for myself and that I could do the research myself. So I did. My next post was:
Source embedded...FactCheck.org. And I read all of your links but found no cites that led to proof that Soros is funding Snopes. They were just blogs and the same story repeated over and over. This is the letter sent by State Farm to Factcheck.org, confirming that they asked the agent, Bud Gregg, to remove the sign. http://www.factcheck.org/...
Short, sweet, with a .pdf of the original letter from Mr. Gregg's company. Did that convince the patriot? No, we transitioned to something else. Betcha can't guess who else this poster didn't trust! The next post...
I don't trust FastCheck.org either. http://www.abovetopsecret.com/...
Surely it doesn't take a genius to read between the lines! Duh!!!
- Snopes refuses to tell where it is funded from. Clue? If they didn't have anything to hide, SURELY they would tell where they are funded from!!! YA THINK!!!!
- Democratic Alliance, a funding channel for uber-Leftist (Marxist) Billionaires (George Soros etc.), direct funds to an "Internet Propaganda Arm" pushing these views. DUH!!!

How many people are aware that Senator Obama has ties to Factcheck.org, the "non-partisan" political "fact checking" site, vis-a-vis the Annenberg Foundation? Or that the controversies surrounding Obama, such as his ties to Bill Ayers, a former member of the violent Vietnam War era Weather Underground terrorist group, and the veracity of Obama’s "birth certificate" are both linked to Factcheck and Annenberg. There’s also news about the ongoing federal lawsuit involving Obama’s birth certificate: how a U.S District Judge has thrown out Obama’s attorney’s Motion to Dismiss and ordered them to "pony up" the certificate "post haste".....

The Annenberg Foundation/Obama/FactCheck/Brady Center Connection
Filed under: 2008 Election,Civil Liberties,Constitutional Law,General,Scum — Patterico @ 11:11 pm
The other day I savaged a FactCheck piece on Obama and gun rights. I noted that FactCheck elevated Obama’s campaign rhetoric over his record. I couldn’t see how an organization allegedly devoted to "facts" could be so naive.
Xrlq joined in, and had plenty of links to others who also bashed FactCheck.
We now have a possible reason why FactCheck seemed to be in Obama’s pocket. Namely, FactCheck’s sugar daddy is a big donor to the anti-Second Amendment folks at the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
FactCheck supposedly exists to look beyond a politician’s claims. Ironically, in its analysis of NRA materials on Barack Obama, these so-called "FactCheckers" use the election year campaign rhetoric of a presidential candidate and a verbal claim by one of the most zealous gun control supporters in Congress to refute facts compiled by NRA’s research of vote records and review of legislative language.
There’s another possible explanation behind FactCheck’s positions. Just last year, FactCheck’s primary funding source, the Annenberg Foundation, also gave $50,000 to the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence for "efforts to reduce gun violence by educating the public and by enacting and enforcing regulations governing the gun industry." Annenberg made a similar grant for $100,000 in 2005. (source)
Regardless of the cause, it’s clear that while FactCheck swoons over a politician’s rhetoric, NRA prefers to look at the more mundane details – like how that politician voted on a bill and what kind of impact that legislation had or may have had on law-abiding gun owners.
As Columbo would say: just one more thing.
The Annenberg Foundation? Doesn’t that sound familiar in the context of Barack Obama? Why, yes it does!
Oh damn, we've circled back to the hue and cry of Ayres and Annenberg Challenge. Well, I did that research quite a while ago, so I thought it might be helpful to share it with the other poster, rather than to simply accept "reading between the lines." My response:
I don't want to read between the lines, I want to base my knowledge on facts. In those links, there are no sources to check, no evidence, only presumption. But there are some below.
You realize that the Annenberg Challenge and the Annenbery Public Policy center are only related through the Annenberg Foundation, which was set up by a Republican, Walter Annenberg, who served in both Nixon's and Reagan's administrations? http://www.nndb.com/...
http://www.factcheck.org/...
FactCheck.org is funded by, and is a project of, the Annenberg Public Policy Center, which was established by the Annenberg Foundation with a $20 million endowment in 1993. The Annenberg Foundation also made additional grants to support our work. We also receive funding from the Flora Family Foundation to help support our educational offshoot, FactCheckED.org. We receive no other outside funding.
For the record, the Annenberg Foundation's president and chairman is Leonore Annenberg, the founder's widow. Public records show she's given $2,300 to the McCain campaign, which announced on Oct. 8, that she has endorsed him for president. (FEC records here: http://www.fec.gov/... )
http://www.annenbergfoundation.org/...
RADNOR, PA: The Annenberg Foundation and the Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University are making available all materials related to the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC).
Recent news reports have raised questions about the CAC, and about the availability of materials related to it. Many of these materials are archived at the University of Illinois at Chicago, and the Annenberg Foundation on August 22, 2008 sent a letter to President B. Joseph White stating that the Foundation has no objection to opening the records to the public and that the Foundation is not blocking their release.
Score for the Tea Party Patriot...Annenberg was a Republican! Guess this was too scary for the poster and they immediately went on the attack. Their next post aimed for me...because there was nothing else to attack, I suppose! The video is priceless!
Well Lady, you just copied the same thing I did!!! Those are the facts!!! You been drinking that Kool-Aid? You need to get off of it!!! Opuke must have you hypnotized!!!! Go get some help!!! Are you aware that Liberalism is a mental condition? We'll you need some help!!!
This is you!!!
Go away in your own little world, keep drinking your Kool-Aid!!! Please, your are warped. You have a mental disorder!!! You only see things the Opuke way so do me a favor & go join your God!!!
The video stated, quite simply, that Liberal couldn't just argue the issues, they had to resort to name-calling. Does this seem a bit ironic to you? Up till this point, I'd said nothing personal about the poster, had not attacked their character, just posted sources and an opposing opinion. So my next post pointed this out and was intended to be a "disengage"... I really didn't want to argue, I wanted to discuss.
I'm sorry you feel the need to denigrate and insult me. The links I posted were not blogs, but primary sources. The Annenberg Foundation was founded and is run by staunch Republicans. State Farm did tell their agent to remove the sign. You can have your own opinion, but you can't have your own facts. Good day.
Ok, perhaps this is a case of can't let go, have to have the last word, but again this poster came back with even more ad hominem and some pretty classic bias... yes, I admit it, I've been to college! As the poster pointed out, Facebook is a conservative site:
Why do you even come to a Conservative site when it is obvious that you just want to stir up trouble!!!
No one wants to hear what Liberals have to say!!! We've had to listen to Commie Liberal Demoncrats for the last 20 months & personally no one and & mean no one wants to read from your sources which by the way you copied the same thing I did but your interpretation of it is wrong!!!
I didn't insult you, I spoke the facts!!! If anything, you tried to denigrate & insult me by correcting everything I said which what a Liberal does!!! You wanted to show your intellect and tried to show everyone on this post your superiority You need to get over yourself. Apparently that's what College has done for you!!!
Furthermore, you've been blinded by your love of Opuke and personally everyone on this post are fed up with Opuke & Communist ideology!!! This is the USA, it is based up Capitalism & the Constitution which Opuke & the Demoncrat Socialists are trying to destroy & have nearly done. Well, it is over. On November 2, 2010, the Patriotic People of the USA will be taking this Country back!!! That is if Opuke, the DOJ, Opuke's Regime & the Demoncratic Socialists don't commit fraud again like they did in 2008 & commit VOTERS FRAUD!!!
Also, The Annenberg Foundation may have been founded by Staunch Republicans but it is no longer ran by them as I have posted above.
Ok, ok. I know when I'm whipped. She had me dead to rights. I am a Commie Liberal Demoncrat Socialist College Student, and I admitted as much:
This is Facebook, not a Conservative site LOL! I commented because your post about Snopes in B's post was on my wall and interested me, so I did some research, checked each of your sources, and addressed the issues. I didn't question your character, just your sources...you resorted to Ad Hominem and name calling. Thank you for indulging this Commie Liberal Demoncrat Socialist College Student.
The end. Well, not quite. Once again, the poster had to have the last word, and I let them because there is no reasoning with such convoluted logic that I wouldn't have to defend myself if I only admitted they were right!
You're like the Eveready Energizer Bunny!! I didn't say FB, I said this post!!!
You didn't address the issue, you tried to correct me!!! If anything, you tried to make me look like a liar with what I said "Snope is owned by husband & wife team who are liberals. They are funded by Soros. Be careful what info you get from them. Occasionally they get it right. But go somewhere else & get your info to verify. They were right on with this though." And I stick to my guns on this. I posted different posts or "blogs" which agreed with Me!!! But then you just on & on trying to correct me. And you just won't let it go!!! That is what I am trying to tell you that Liberals do!!! It is obvious you & I do not agree and that is fine with me, but don't try correcting me or trying to make me out a liar.
And if anything I said wasn't true, you would not keep coming back on the defense trying to defend yourself!!!!
All added emphasis in the block quotes is mine. You can't do bold on Facebook LOL! All spelling and grammar is original...I wouldn't want to change a thing!
