I'm sick of GOP attack ads against Obama, Reid, and Pelosi that target Democrats who have not served in Washington.
I'm sick of GOP attack ads that claim Obama raised taxes, cut Medicare, or is not "one of us". I'm sick that the Bush bailouts, debts, and unemployment have now been rewritten as caused by Obama.
I'm sick that Democrats can understand policy, but can't figure a way to explain it to regular voters. I'm sick of being beat with catch phrases like death tax, death panels, or socialist. It's time to put the heat on the GOP in the home stretch. Campaigning on smaller government and less taxes is not what the conversation has been for the last two years. An ad to motivate the base should remind them how Obama's olive branch has been torn from his hand and thrown on a boiling tea pot of rage. So let's remind all voters what conservatives have been yelling about for the last two year. Cue the video.
As Harry Truman stated, just tell the truth and Republicans will think it's hell. This isn't just about their candidates, but the conservative media that carries their water and aides their campaigns with free advertising on talk shows nationwide.
This was a one shot take and I needed help on editing, so no claims on being ready for prime time. That was secondary to the ideas and story board which were key to organize and narrate the history of GOP's vitriol that needs to be pushed front and center before voters go to the polls. Can the Democrats run this type of ad?
The GOP has already nationalized the race and made it about Obama. Should the Democratic Party return the favor? The difference is instead of slinging mud, this just allows the conservatives to do the talking. The right attacks everyone: NPR, Sean Penn, conservationists, feminists, gun control groups, and anyone else that doesn't fit a specific narrow view of America. Talk shows can dish it out, but let's see if the GOP will stand by those talkers and defended them when that speech is shown to be in lockstep with GOP candidates.
I really wanted to do 3 concept ads. Past, present, future. You've seen the past. I have the others drawn out and will likely do another one take ad for reaction and post tomorrow. Not to give to much away, but it's is more geared to independents and issues, but keeping a sharp stack contrast on the GOP slogans set against images of the real world. The future ad is the House under GOP control and setting forward what subpoenas would be issued and investigations started. That would work on to fire up the base and turn off independents when they see a combative agenda controlled by the GOP. It's not just gridlock. Does anyone outside the 15% hardcore tea party really want another government shutdown, endless investigations and yes, even impeachment? That's where we go.
I'll also throw out a poll. The cutting room floor had some quotes I couldn't get in time. The Olympic footage, cheering America's defeat could be cut down to add Michele Bachmann's "I'm very concerned that he (Obama) may have anti-American views". Or Jean Schmidt's reaction to a woman stating Obama "cannot be a president by our constitution," and Representative Schmidt replying, "I agree with you, but the courts don't". Or any number of Newt or Palin gems (I thought death panels was too obvious).
Of course, leave any other mind numbing, outrageous GOP quotes in the comments that I left out. There are too many for any one person to remember. Just one more reason to fire up an ad that puts the true color of conservative anger all together in one spot to shake the voters out of their homes and into the voting booth. Should the Democratic national committee go there? Will they? The GOP does.
