Just in case you hadn't heard, there was a huge protest in Salt Lake City tonight:
Organizers estimate a crowd of 4,500 people completely surrounded the two blocks of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints administration building and Temple Square in downtown Salt Lake City in protest of Boyd K. Packer’s remarks during the church’s semi-annual General conference last weekend.
And what was this all about?
The sermon by Boyd K. Packer, president of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, came Sunday during the 180th semiannual general conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Salt Lake City.
Okay, so the #2 ranking Mormon delivered a sermon. What did Mr. Packer see fit to say in the midst of our latest rash of suicides by gay young people?
There's never a good time for this sort of thing, but one can't help but feel this is particularly bad timing, given recent events:
Boyd K. Packer, the second-highest Mormon leader, said same-sex attraction is "impure and unnatural" and can be overcome, and that same-sex unions are morally wrong and "against God's law and nature."
And just in case any young person who might be listening doesn't know where he's coming from, he makes sure they understand:
In his remarks Packer said some would argue that gays "were pre-set and cannot overcome what they feel are inborn tendencies toward the impure and unnatural. Not so! Why would our Heavenly Father do that to anyone?"
Here's the video of his disgusting remarks:
