This is a photo diaries meant only as a brief respite from the ugliness of the day and as a reminder that we share this fragile planet with all manner of amazing creatures. I hope you enjoy your visit here.
The Waianae Coast
Divided or Tiger Flatworm
Primitive, toxic, beautiful.
Kangaroo Nudibranch
Named for the long thick "tail" on these realtively large sea slugs.
Eyespot Shrimp
You can see how they get their name.
Red Swimming Crab
They have paddle like hind legs that allow them to swim.
Day Octopus
We saw an unually large number of octopus last weekend including some realy large ones.

Hairy Hermit Crab
Stocky Hawkfish
Longspine Pufferfish
These three following shots are new species for my camera...
Flagtail Tilefish
They disappear quickly into their burrows in the sand when disturbed.
Broad Stingray
Stingrays are not common in Hawaii at least in my experience. You are far more likely to see eagle rays than these large bottom dwellers. It could be that we rarely dive on sand and that is where they stay.
Red Spotted Sand Perch
In this case I didn't know this fish was red until I looked at the image on my computer. There is no red light at 90 feet so it looked green. Blood appears green underwater as well. You only see the colors due to the artificial light on the strobes.
Undulated MorayThese guys are usually hiding deeper in holes and hard to photograph during the day. This one was nicely exposed and posing.
Undulated Moray
Yellowmargin Morays & White-Stripe Cleaner Shrimp
Aren't they a cute couple? (thanks to Squarewheel for correction on shrimp name)
