The plutocrats are revving up the smoke machine in order to make people think there is a fire.
Of course there's nothing scandalous about an openly liberal pundit openly donating to liberal politicians! Unfortunately, a lack of substantive charges never silences an orchestrated public condemnation. If enough smoke is blown up the public ass it is all too easy to create a career-destroying appearance of impropriety.
Keith Olbermann's unapologetic liberalism has clearly pissed-off the plutocracy, but being unapologetic is his best defense. While conservative politicians and pundits effortlessly brush off revelations of corruption and sleaze, liberal figures are dragged down by the sensationalizing of the inconsequential. The standard liberal refusal to dignify swift-boating with a response only yields the floor to the scandal-mongers. Trying to claim the moral high ground by remaining above the fray just gives attackers more room to swing the axe.
Olbermann has never seemed the type to make milquetoast concessions, and I hope his fighting spirit will see him through this tea-party tempest.
