I don’t know where to start.
I haven’t slept soundly since the election (and reading Bill Moyers' recent speech at Boston University). I watched the polls beforehand like everyone else and just couldn’t believe that our country’s collective memory was so short it couldn’t remember how we got here. Wow, was I wrong.
I want to get involved, but I’m not sure how. My disconent with the way things are going is starting to boil over. And instead of turning that discontent into a non-productive, seething rage that doesn't help anything, I’d like to do something more constructive with it.
Maybe I haven’t gotten involved because national politics haven’t adversely affected me personally (yeah, right). Maybe I haven’t gotten involved because I have two premiere progressives, Keith Ellison and Al Franken, representing me already. Maybe I haven't gotten involved because I've been inundated with so much information about American injustice that it just makes my head spin. Maybe I haven’t gotten involved because I’m starting a family and I work a lot and any extra energy I have goes to them.
But I think it’s because of my daughters I think it’s time to get off my ass. And get involved. Because I don’t want them to inherit a country where Greed wins.
Where Pollution wins.
Where Ignorance wins.
Where the Warmongers win.
Where Misdirected Rage wins.
Where War Crime wins.
Where Corporations win.
Where the Rich win.
Where Hate wins.
Where Oil wins.
Where Insurance wins.
Where the Arrogant win.
Where do I get involved? I’m done lurking. On Daily Kos and in life.
But I don’t know where to start.
UPDATE: Thanks for the rec list. The encouragement is great, and the advice is helpful. Time to get to work...I can't believe this country wants the vision that Republicans have for it. Time for Audacity.
