When was the last time you picked up a penny?
Alas, I am always too slow when I need the words but after a conversation with a conservative this is what I wanted to say. After I expressed gratitude to Obama for passing health care reform that may provide "insurance" to my child with a condition that cannot be insured I got the standard story about the immigrant who went into a coma in the emergency room. The hospital has spent a million dollars keeping this guy alive and "his country won't take him back. All I said was "Yes" we need to do this.
But for 300 million people this is 1/3 of a cent. Do you think this mans life is worth less than something you wouldn't even bend over to pick up? What if you were in trouble, far from home and depended on the charity of strangers to help. I thought the rule was do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
So many voices are turning us against each other. I don't think that's the way.
