I suppose if I wanted to be ironic, I'd add "Breaking" to this brief note.
Willie Nelson's tour bus was stopped at the Border Patrol checkpoint at Sierra Blanca, Texas and, after officers smelled the distinctive odor of, well, Willie Nelson's tour bus, they arrested three people on charges of possession of marijuana, including the red-headed stranger himself.
What details are available can be found here.
Okay, let's dispose of the obvious points first:
- It's Willie Nelson's tour bus. Moving on.
- If there was once any justification for the criminalization of weed possession, it's long disappeared in the face of murder gangs destabilizing Mexico to protect a lucrative U.S. drug trade that's 2/3 made of marijuana profits. Legalize this shit. Moving on.
Finally, a word to users who travel Interstate 10: the checkpoint at Sierra Blanca, about 100 miles east of the New Mexico border is always there. It has been for years. Every vehicle using the highway gets stopped, even the Greyhound. It is primarily a Border Patrol operation searching for paperless immigrants, but they are more than happy to find some hapless toker who didn't roll down the windows sufficiently early, as a few friends can attest.
If you use, and travel this stretch of the I-state, put out the bat and air out the car well before you approach S.B. If you lose track of the miles, the lovely, distinctive mountain that gives the town its name can be seen well before the canopies and trailers of the checkpoint.
A word to the wise, though possibly temporarily goofy.
PS--Willie? Really?
