As predicted the GOP made substantial mid-term gains. It seems like only yesterday when America was running (kicking and screaming) from republican policies that contributed to a severe economic downturn, unemployment, bankruptcies, an illegal conflict in Iraq, an unfinished conflict in Afghanistan, torture, illegal wiretapping, outing of covert agents, constant fear and uncertainty, etc...
These same Americans spent 18 months listening to candidates discuss solutions and settled on two - John McCain and Barack Obama. We all know how that election ended up and of course the consequences. I don't want to get into an argument about individual policies or candidates.
My point is really this:
Americans made a choice and seem unwilling to let that choice have a chance fix the problems we know exist. They asked the president, congressmen and senators to put their necks on the line for the past two years to make tough decisions, unpopular decisions, and then they didn't have their backs.
We don't know, now, what impact those decisions will really have in the long run. They might be great or disastrous. But, the country just communicated to our elected officials that we don't have their backs, regardless of party. And that is a terrible thing.
