Let's make one!
We absolutely must have our voices heard, or things are going to keep getting worse, fast. We need a progressive television or cable network that can present our vision- and it cannot be beholden to corporate interests.
That means we will have to pay for, and build it, it ourselves. I really don't know how much a network would cost, someone said tens or hundreds of millions of dollars. If so, we should be so lucky- that is practically nothing compared to the resources of American Progressive Democrats. There have to be at least 10 million progressives nationwide- and every one of them has a choice epithet at least weekly if not daily for FOX news or the depredations of the corporate media. So it's time to pony up, Progressives! One dollar from each progressive is at least $10 million. Ten dollars is $100 million. One hundred dollars is $1 billion! Moreover, once we get the ball rolling, the show of force will attract more allies to our side.
By creating this network independent of corporate backing, we can create a member owned cooperative where each Progressive has an equal vote in electing the board and upper management. We can implement real time direct democracy to popularly direct aspects of our cooperative corporation. We can create a nucleus of progressive culture that will unify our movement nationally and ignite a new energy in our politics! The status quo is able to appear undefeatable only because it has no systemic challenger. Let's take the fight to them!
Progressives have to come to realize that this is perhaps the single most important investment we can make in a Democratic future. Rupert Murdoch ran FOX at a loss for years- we should be prepared to do the same if needs be. We donate for a cycle and watch as the gains we make are undone the next cycle. We need a voice that is out there supporting our causes and our candidates, 24/7, all year long!
The Republican Party has its mouthpiece in FOX news and enablers in the rest of the corporate media. If we as Progressives can get our national voice heard, we can counterbalance them and moreover, we will be able to leverage it to heavily influence, if not dominate, the rest of the Democratic party. The Democratic Party cannot ever be truly liberal as long as it depends for crucial support from the corporations- when we supplant that central support, it becomes our party again.
We have to make this happen. Our own futures, the future of our children, our country and our world depends on it. Let's raise our voice!
