In light of the poor economy, many people losing their homes, and the expiration of unemployment benefits for millions who do you suppose those kind, sensitive, and warm-hearted folks of the "Bush-Cheney Alumni Association" are asking you to help out this holiday season?
Could it be your local charity? Perhaps your local church? Maybe even Africa or an AIDS-related fund given GWB's impassioned appeal to congress? No,they have identified a much more deserving cause...
Given the holiday season, and the present, poor economic circumstances many of us and our fellow Americans are experiencing, I was not too surprised to find an email yesterday around 3:47pm EST asking me to give "$100, $50, $25, or even more..." What did raise my brow a bit was that this message was from the "Bush-Cheney Alumni Association" and the subject was "A Message From President Bush's Cabinet".
Imagine my surprise (not) when I found that the person deemed most in need of my hard-earned cash by the Bush-Cheney folks is none other than former Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez!
It seems poor Mr. Gonzalez, currently employed by Texas Tech University, is having a hard time paying off his legal defense fees in government investigations. You see, according to Condoleeza Rice, Donald Rumsfeld, Mel Martinez, Josh Bolten, and Hank Paulson, among others, "For three years, a good man who helped guide the nation through uncharted legal waters at a time of great peril was unfairly under fire" and "Our nation is better and safer because of the service of Alberto Gonzales. He has paid a high price for that service. It’s right for us to show our thanks by helping defray the legal bills for defending him against a political vendetta."
What were some of those allegations again? Oh yeah:
Under Gonzales's leadership, the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were accused of improperly, and perhaps illegally, using the USA PATRIOT Act to uncover personal information about U.S. citizens.[24] His inability to explain his role and influence in the dismissal of U.S. attorneys led several members of the United States Congress from both major political parties to call for his resignation. Through his testimony before Congress on issues ranging from the Patriot Act to U.S. Attorney firings, he commonly admitted ignorance.[25] For example, in response to a Washington Post article which stated that Gonzales was told about FBI violations involving the Patriot Act, Justice officials "could not immediately determine whether Gonzales read any of the FBI reports in 2005 and 2006."
So my friends, if you can find it in your heart, forget about the kid's gifts this holiday, giving to charity, or paying the mortgage. Instead, by donating to Alby-G, you will prove you are a true American, or as the alumni put it, "It will show you will stand with those who so honorably served America when they are attacked for that service."

Here's the body of the email I received yesterday:
For three years, a good man who helped guide the nation through uncharted legal waters at a time of great peril was unfairly under fire.
For three years, Alberto Gonzales had to deal with numerous investigations of his and others’ actions. The harsh campaign conducted against him by some Congressional Democrats and by liberal interest groups was disgraceful and unfair. Now, finally, he’s been vindicated and deserves our help today.
Why did Judge Gonzales suffer such an unfair assault? Because as Attorney General, he played a role in something perfectly legal and never before questioned – the replacement of a handful of the 93 U.S. Attorneys appointed by President Bush.
Partisan opponents of President Bush tried to create a scandal where there was none so they could damage Judge Gonzales and the President. But we knew Judge Gonzales would be vindicated.
Now that vindication has come. Though it was not nearly as widely reported as were the attacks on Judge Gonzales, the Justice Department finally issued its long-overdue report, concluding no charges were justified.
Now we ask you to join us in helping retire the legal bills Judge Gonzales incurred to insure that his interests were fully protected in the face of the political attacks against him and the Bush Administration.
President and Mrs. Bush have already made substantial gifts to the Judge’s legal expense fund. Will you join them in supporting the Judge by sending a gift today of $100, $50, $25, or even more if you are able? Use the mail form to make your gift, or visit www.GonzalesTrust.com to give online.
Whatever you can send would be much appreciated. It will not just go to retire the substantial legal bills from this battle. It will show you will stand with those who so honorably served America when they are attacked for that service.
Our nation is better and safer because of the service of Alberto Gonzales. He has paid a high price for that service. It’s right for us to show our thanks by helping defray the legal bills for defending him against a political vendetta.
Please join us in showing Al and Becky Gonzales how grateful we are for their service and sacrifice by sending your most generous gift today to the Alberto R. Gonzales Legal Expense Trust.
Thank you.
Happy Holidays!
