Re: RASalvatore's Diary "You're Falling For It Again."
The list is full of "So-and-so NAILS it!" or "So-and-so DESTROYS Obama!" and on and on.
You're falling for it again.
It's a meaningless dance.
Before I respond, I must confess, I’m one of the people who wrote a "so & so nails it" diary. And I stand by the article I wrote.
It is clear you believe everything should be solved through "the system," but that is not an acceptable solution for those of us who believe the political process is broken. Many people believe this bill is a scam and they would rather fight than acquiesce one more inch to the wealthy people who are driving our country into the ground.
Try to remember that the 2008 financial crash removed trillions of dollars from our economy. The people who caused this crisis never accepted responsibility for their mistakes. Now they want to pay for their recklessness with social security money and Medicare funds. They have sacrificed the infrastructure of our nation to protect their greedy interests, but even more detestable, they have robbed millions of Americans of their future; they have stolen their hopes and dreams. Instead of being held accountable for their crimes, these wealthy criminals have been rewarded for their immorality.
Now Obama is going to give them $900 billion more in tax breaks and the cost will not be borne by the wealthy...it will be paid for by you and me and our children and grandchildren.
Obama could have made the case to the American people that it is unconscionable to give the wealthy one more penny while the poor people in our country go hungry or sleep on the streets. Instead he said he is willing to compromise with "terrorists who hold this country hostage."
He should have stood up for the children of our nation who will go to bed hungry tonight and promised them he would never allow the rich to rob them of one more morsel of food. But he didn’t.
This country is filled with people who are suffering and our president has shown little empathy for their plight. He could have drawn a line in the sand and for one time in his presidency, had the courage to hold firm on his convictions. But he didn't...instead he wagged his finger at the people who are suffering the most and called us sanctimonious.
Of course we are angry.
We are "whining" because we are hurting and we find this bill immoral; this is not a playground game; this is the future of our country. We realize that if we don't fight, there will be no middle class left to fight for, there will be no future for our children and grandchildren...we are not willing to chance their future on a political system that has already failed them terribly. The price for inaction is too high to even consider.
I am not worried about the people who are willing to fight. I admire them for their courage. Obama was wrong. Our country wasn't founded on compromise. Men and women who were willing to sacrifice their lives to create "a more perfect union" founded it. "Give me liberty or give me death" doesn't sound like compromise.
What concerns me, are the people who are willing to roll over and accept defeat without a fight, the people who object to good and decent people fighting for what is just.
It must be a cold day in hell because I just heard Mary Landreau say something that I think is worth repeating: "We can't afford anymore mistakes; there is no buffer left, there is no money left to pay for these tax cuts."
And Bernie Sanders just said, "Do you really believe that the millionaires in our country really deserve a tax break? Something that our grandchildren will end up paying for? There are millions of Americans sleeping on the streets, while we give unwarranted tax breaks to the wealthy."
If you are sitting on the fence, take the time to listen to Bernie Sanders: he has been brilliant. He has put Obama to shame for his collusion in this travesty.
