With the Christmas/Chaunakah/Kwanzza season upon us, I am wondering what are your favorite songs of the season.
Now that we are well into the holiday season, I am wondering where you stand on holiday music. Do you like listening to holiday music? Or would you rather hear a genuine "Silent Night" than another Xmas song.
Of course, music that has something to do with Christmas dominates the season, although Adam Sandler has carved out a little niche for the Festival of Lights with his Haunakah song. So far, I have not heard any Kwannza songs, but maybe I'm not listening in the right places.
At any rate, do you have any favorite Christmas songs? My favorites (in no particular order) are:
- Christmas Wrapping by the Waitresses. This song mentions what most Christmas songs don't. That Christmas is as much the season to be stressed out as the season to be jolly. It ends happily, though.
- Christmas Time is Here by Vincent Guilardi. "A Charlie Brown Christmas" is one of my all-time favorite Xmas specials. And this is my favorite number from it.
- Merry Christmas (War Is Over) by John Lennon & Yoko Ono. I love this single whenever I hear it. It's message is more relevant than ever.
- Step Into Christmas by Elton John. This number always gets me in the holiday mood.
- Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney. See reason above.
- The Christmas Song by Nat King Cole. The classic version is still the best.
- The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late) by The Chipmunks. I'm a sucker for a good novelty tune, and this fits the bill.
- The Chaunakah Song by Adam Sandler. I'm not Jewish, but I still enjoy this tune when it's on the air. Neil Diamond has a great version of this song on YouTube.
- Frosty The Snowman. This tune (which I've heard countless versions of) is a perennial favorite of mine. My favorite version is by the Ronettes from the Phil Spector Xmas Album.
- Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer by Elmo And Patsy. I know I shouldn't be laughing at this song, but I find it funny year after year.
So, do you have any favorite holiday songs, or is holiday music not your cup of Earl Grey? Please give me your feedback.
