A few years ago, while Bush was still in office, the clinic I get my health care from said that they might have to cut back on services - because too many of their patients had insurance. The added costs of fighting insurance companies was killing them. Today that has not at least officially happened, but the clinic is visibly strained. I can not imagine them surviving much into 2014, once the mandate kicks in. With my blood presure it is a serious possibility that I will therefore die.
There is one chance for me. There is a clause in the HCR bill that allows a state to opt out of HCR if it can devise a system that meets certain requirments. (ie single payer) but it has to apply for a waiver from the federal government.
So, California has to pass a single payer bill before the 2012 elections and get that waiver. It already has once; and this time Arnie won't be there to veto it. Lives are at stake Governor Brown. After 2012 the Republicans will either repeal HCR, or the Republicans will refuse to grant the waiver, or the Republicans will refuse to fund HCR, or Obama will compromise. Or pigs will fly. Get it?
I apologise, but I will be taking an elderly friend shopping most of the day, so if you want to attack me for assuming that pigs don't fly you'll have to wait until late afternoon to read my responses. Sadly, those who want me to apologise for venting will also have to wait.
