Until the week after the election, while I was waiting to see how the President would respond, I was still an apologist for this Administration. I was upset, but willing to put most of the blame on Congress.
Along with many of you, as the President tacked right in response to the elections, I surrendered. I could no longer defend the President, the one that I sent money to elect - when I was unemployed.
IF, as it seems, there is a Konsensus that the Administration is going in the wrong direction, it seems that we need to ask ourselves; how can we best be heard and best force policy toward helping the 98% who are being left behind.
Bold populist action is needed to save this country. It is no secret that this Government, in all branches, is one, of the Corporations, by the Corporations and for the Corporations, foreign and domestic.
There is discussion right now, on MSNBC, of the President bargaining unemployment benefits and tax cuts with votes on the START Treaty. Think. About. That. This is unprecedented. The financial interests of the rich are so strong, that even necessary foreign policy agreements involving limiting nuclear weapons are subject to being tossed in the trash unless the rich get their tax cut.
PREDICTION: The "comprimise" on the tax cuts, will not be a higher amount such as one million dollars and under - it will be a TOTAL cut for a specified period of time, no less than two years - so they will become permanent under the next President. And this issue is one that the President could win by simply promising to veto anything other than the planned $250,000.00, and blame the Corporatists if taxes go up.
But I digress; the point of me writing is to call for action, beyond voting for better democrats. We progressives have become pretty lax compared to our counterparts in other countries. In fact, the US Government has become used to acting without any real thought of populist anger.
I think it is time to get angry. I think it is time to join the non-racist, economically insecure conservative populists in their anger. A movement based solely on economic justice could encompass both the concerned DailyKos reader and the non-racist Tea Partier. IF we are going to call for action, we will need support from all 98% of us.
We need to threaten and then carry out, broad 2 or 3 day coordinated strikes. Coordinated to hurt the Government where it feels pain, the Corporate bottom line. A million person march on Wall Street, demanding our money back. Non-violent resistance, in the tradition of the best Americans who were faced with an intransigent Government. A total ban on buying goods from certain companies, buying exclusively from companies that adhere to our set of principles.
I am asking for action ideas. I do not think we can afford to "vote the bums out" in two years. Though I do not support Obama, I do not want the Republicans to win in 2012. I want to FORCE both the Government and its Corporate underwriters to listen and ACT on our behalf. There are trillions of dollars sitting in the coffers of America's Corporations, that money will go exclusively to .01% of the people, unless we act to threaten their future. Please; help me to think of ways to ACT to force change that "we can believe in see".
***** Update: It is BONUS TIME! On Wall Street. IF there was ever a time to capture populist anger, it should be when unemployment benefits dry up, tax cuts are given and we read about finance people making 8 figure bonuses. Someone explain to me why a mid-level banker is worth 500 times more than a nurse.
