“Rep. Steve King, a Republican from Iowa, referred to President Obama as "very, very urban," while charging that as a senator he gave special favor to African American farmers who were victims of government discrimination. In case anybody missed his meaning in a speech on the House floor Monday evening, King emphasized the word "urban," drawing the first syllable out. “
(I plead guilty for the bolds)
With their usual impeccably timed noise machine in high gear, the Republicans went beyond Steve King’s regularly scheduled reminder that the President is just some rapper N-word from the projects of Chicago. Naturally, Limbaugh got the call, referring to aid to African American farmers as “slave reparations” and wondering why white Americans shouldn’t receive reparations from Native Americans since them redskins invented cigarettes and therefore saddled peace-loving white settlers (bearing turkeys, small pox and clap) with 400 years of lung cancer.
Aside from his usual ever-so-slightly flawed comparative logic, historians not named “Newt” might argue with ole Rush over his revisionist history of smoking. Yep. Those darn Chinese were polluting the atmosphere with smoke 5,000 years before Protestants partook of the Powhatan peace pipe.
But all this is irrelevant since what I really wanted to share in this brief diary was this comment from Greek historian Herodotos who wrote about the Scythians liberal use of cannibis sativa. Naturally, imbibing on burning cannibis fumes was strictly for ritual purposes.
To quote the scholarly Herodotos:
”At once it begins to smoke, giving off a vapour unsurpassed by any vapour-bath one could find in Greece. The Scythians enjoy it so much that they howl with pleasure.”
Damn those injuns!
