I can't just blame Obama (and I think it would be unfair to) for everything facing this country. I don't blame him for the incoming republican majorities, ok, I don't blame him exclusively...
I blame congress, both bodies. I blame the President and his choice for DNC chair, Tim Kaine. First off, Pelosi - who has very little to apologize for over the last four years could have set back republican gaines by simply having the tax vote before the election. I really don't fucking believe a majority of people support tax cuts for those earning $250,000.00 then or now. Outside of that, Pelosi has been one hell of a majority leader and will be one fierce opposition leader. With everything that's happened, I find her the least responsible. And if we're going to have strong democratic majorities again, it's gonna start with her.
The senate...I am not quite sure what it means that we still have a majority in there and not the house. Luck of the draw? But this body makes me ill, why did we agree to a 60 vote majority? As long as you have Conrad, B. Nelson, Baccus, & Leiberman, you don't have 60 votes and I think Reid knows this. It isn't a shock. I view the Senate as the place where bills go to die. Hopefully that doesn't change with a Republican House. Let's see how they like it, idiots.
Tim Kaine should have been gone with the Martha Coakley/Scott Brown debacle. But no, we got to watch Chris Christie and some other republican asshats get elected and Kaine kept his job. After Brown, it was time for Howard Dean, the democratic doctor to come in and fix what was and is badly broken. Right now, there's still time to get him back into the mix. Hell, I want a screaming democrat to run for office. Instead of a calm and sober Obama rationally telling me that I'm unreasonable because I want justice and equality for all people and the world is full of compromise. I voted for you, change, not compromise. I didn't vote for you to compromise me.
Mr. President, I get what you're trying to do, it's the one promise I really wish you would break, which is treating the opposition like adults. I know you're the president and you have to govern all the people and you want to believe they are reasonable adults. Well, they're really not that into you. Bill Maher said you need some of that Bush cockiness and he's right. Give into the Bush rhetoric of not negotiating with the terrorists or "hostage-takers" and you'll probably get a lot more of what you want. Stop trying to mend the fences with the GOP and make them come to you. They aren't reasonable and I would really like you to be the Democratic President we thought we elected.
Part of the title of this diary is "vs everybody". Is there really anyone's interests served in destroying social security? Is there anyone's interests served by staying in Afghanistan? Why isn't Guantomo Bay closed?
