Revealed - the recent yammering about mirandizing Abdulmutallab is all thanks to the sniveling schemey schemes of Dick Cheney.
From TPM:
It turns out that the criticism surrounding the decision to read Miranda rights to the attempted Christmas bombing suspect didn't originally come from any office-holding Republican.
Rather, it was pioneered by Tom Ridge and Dick Cheney in the days after Christmas, and only later picked up by members of Congress like Rep. Pete Hoekstra (R-MI) and Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO).

Gee, wonder why Cheney's so concerned with keeping these guys from being tried in open court. hmmmmmmm. hmmmmm.
The timeline that gets laid out in the article makes it clear that not a single Republican even brought up Miranda rights until several days after the incident. First, on Dec.28, was Tom Ridge, in a Sunday Morning TV interview, followed soon after by Dick Cheney in his infamous Politico stenography excercise: http://dyn.politico.com/... Both went full bore on the issue of Abdulmutallab's Miranda rights. The meme, quite predictably has since been picked up by every Gorn in town.
More from an update in TPM:
The delayed GOP outrage may be explained by the fact that all previous cases of suspected terrorists captured on U.S. soil had been handled by the criminal justice system, as Attorney General Eric Holder noted last week.
Despite all this, Republicans are sticking to the Miranda attack. Amid calls by Bond and Hoekstra for Brennan to resign, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) told National Review that Brennan is "not being honest and forthright" about the phone call and the Miranda issue.
We asked spokespeople for the four Republicans why they didn't respond to the criminal charges against Abdulmutallab when they were brought on Dec. 26. We'll let you know if we hear back.

I doubt they will hear back, because it's now obvious to anyone that the concept originated during satphone yak sessions between Ridge and Cheney, and especially in Cheney's ensuing Politico screed:
He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of Sept. 11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.
Nice try, Dick. And you might have gotten away with it, if it weren't for us meddling blogs. bwahahahaaaaa
