Many of you probably already know this, but in case some of you don’t, a few words:
Calico cats are relatively rare because they are a genetic mutation that cannot be inherited. Calicos occur in many breeds, their coat patterns can show almost any variation. Most that survive to adulthood are females, because almost all calico males suffer health issues that prevent them from reaching adulthood. Those males that do are usually sterile. All attempts to breed calicos have failed. In many cultures a calico cat is considered to be a good luck talisman: sailors prefer them for ships’ cats, and the Chinese believe they bring wealth.
Edit: Apparently I have outdated info on Calicos. Please see Croyal's comment below.
Ignore the trolls, please, and I hope you enjoy Calico Catitude.
Note: Due to unexpected and intractable transportation problems (if you have kids you know what I mean) I may not be back until @ 4 PM EST. I have asked JanF to stand in as hostess if I can’t find a solution. Thanks for you understanding. I will be back soon.
