The debate about the HCR bill here at DK has gotten pretty heated. Yesterday two diaries, one title "Why I Can't support the HCR bill" and the other opposing one "a disgraceful diary 'why I can't support the HCR bill'" were on the rec list right next to each other.
And I am just plain tired of one Democratic Party talking point being repeated over and over and over by people here at Daily Kos and everywhere.
And that talking point is "31 million Americans that don't have health insurance will have it under this bill." Yeah...bullshit.
The only reason why that statement is true is because of the mandate to buy private health insurance. The bill isn't covering those people. Those people who don't have health insurance usually because they can't afford it are going to be forced to buy it.
So when you say "31 million people will be covered by this bill" you're just repeating a bullshit statement to sell a bill that overall is good but could be better.
I support passing the bill. But don't pretend that its covering millions people that would not be covered otherwise (other than pre-existing and dropping when you get sick, which I'm sure everyone supports and is the only saving grace of the bill).
So stop with the bullshit.
