Facebook takes invasion of privacy to a whole new level.
Some of you may have heard of Facebooks new "invasion of privacy" privacy policy. Well today I got to experience it for myself.
I have my settings on Facebook set to "Ultra-Paranoid". I use an alias just so I can keep up with my family. Today, after Facebook implemented their new "Privacy" (meaning no privacy) policies, I was signing a political petition on-line. I was NOT logged into Facebook, had NOT given them permission to do this, and WAS NOT using the e-mail account I used to sign up for Facebook. BUT, the instant I "signed" the petition, a Facebook box popped up asking if I wanted to "Share" this information with Facebook. Needless to say I clicked no and then proceeded to immediately delete my Facebook account.
This is wrong, it's despicable, and they're going to get away with it. A) Because most people don't have enough sense to care about privacy and B) because it has sneakily woven itself too deep into our social fabric to get rid of it.
I hope someone with more energy than I will start a "Boycott Facebook" day where every user is encouraged to deactivate their account for a day (they can easily reactivate afterwards).
This is scarey, scarey stuff. The button that says "Share my every thought with the world" on the box was right next to the one that says the equivalent of "No Thanks". In other words, one slip of the mouse and you're outed as the proud, liberal, commie, terrorist sympathizer that you (and I) are.
