The following is not a parody. Click on the links to verify that this is actually true.
For the second year in a row, British Petroleum Exploration & Production, Inc. (BP), has been named a Finalist in the Safety Award for Excellence (SAFE) competition for offshore oil drilling! The award is given by the Minerals Management Service of the U.S. Department of Interior.
Congratulations, BP!
Heckuva job, MMS!
The awards were scheduled to be celebrated the day after tomorrow -- Monday, May 3 -- at the SAFE Awards Luncheon at the Offshore Technology Conference (OTC) in Houston.
Alas, however, the luncheon had to be postponed. According to the MMS, everyone in Houston is just too busy with the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico to pause for lunch:
The ongoing situation with the Transocean Deepwater Horizon drilling accident has caused the MMS to dedicate considerable resources to the successful resolution of this event, which will conflict with holding this ceremony next week.
