John Cornyn admitted earlier today that Sharron Angle isn't ready to face the press and won't be for a few weeks. This seems to be SOP now with Republican wing nut candidates. Started with Palin of course, but they let their guard down with Rand Paul, but are not taking any chances with Sharron Angle. Keep them away from the media for weeks on end and try and coach them to hide their wing nutty views, to disguise themselves as mainstream republican politicians.
TPM has the story (HERE)
Cornyn echoed several of his previous statements suggesting Angle isn't quite prepared to face the media, and will be fairly sequestered, at least until she has a full staff of campaign veterans running the show for her.
"You're going to have complete 100 percent access to her, but I think it just makes sense, at some point that I think she needs to get staffed up and prepared," Cornyn said. "I don't think anybody would be prepared for a race like this where 20 or 30 million dollars is going to be spent in negative advertising."
Cornyn promising 100% access of course is ridiculous as well, as she'll never venture away from the safe harbor that is Fox. You see Angle's media blackout doesn't seem to extend to Fox, though it now might after her meeting with the GOP Caucus today, given her less than stellar debut on the very soft-ball Fox and Friends. I believe even Hannity had trouble leading her through an interview -
This comes after Angle's great escape from earlier today after meeting with GOP Caucus leaders.
This afternoon, as nearly a dozen reporters stood in wait, Angle attended the Republicans' weekly policy luncheon--a common tradition in both parties after primary victors and other hopefuls enter the general election. When it was over, though, and Angle was ready to leave, she didn't exactly welcome press attention. Rather she took a back door out of the dining room, through the waiting room outside the Senate chamber into a reception area, which reporters are forbidden from entering. From there she took a senators only staircase down to the first floor of the Capitol toward a side exit on the building's north face. That's where the pack caught up with her and peppered her with questions, which she almost entirely ignored as she weaved her way east toward the driveway, and into her car to safety.
The only thing missing would have been the Benny Hill theme.
You have to wonder how a woman who just won her party's hotly contested primary isn't ready, and how can she be coached enough to be ready in mere weeks.
Reid should jump on this with ads - she's leaving herself open to be framed. How about a "Where's Sharron?" ad that would use Cornyn's quotes how she's not yet ready, but will be in a couple weeks, and what exactly does that mean. Then show some of her wing nuttiest quotes and say that no matter how much coaching she gets while on media blackout she cannot hide from these statements".
How is it acceptable to anybody that a candidate fresh off a huge political win is cut off from all media because "she isn't ready yet". It's obvious that the GOP wat to try and coach her answers and manage her and try and pull one over on the people of Nevada, to pretend that Sharron Angle isn't as out to lunch as she really is.
When asked to comment on Angle's attacks on the Hannity Show, Reid's office had this to say -
"Sharron Angle refuses to face Nevada voters regarding her extreme and dangerous agenda, and is hiding from all media except friendly right-wing outlets. While the policy contrasts in this race are stark, the fact that Angle would use these right-wing venues to attack Harry Reid's patriotism is pathetic and repugnant. Just a week into the general election, it's become perfectly clear that Angle and her right-wing media friends will do or say anything to distract from her dangerous plans to eliminate Social Security and Medicare, privatize the Veterans Administration, pull the US out of the UN, and eliminate all regulations on Wall Street and Big Oil."
I wonder what he'll say to her GOP Caucus imposed media blackout.
